I just checked Matt’s bullets and see they are like $100 per 500. Wow. I can’t believe that. Is this the norm?

I cast my own so I never have bought any bullets. I haven’t been keeping up with the cost.

What’s about the cheapest you can get? Are they decent quality?

Matt's bullets are hand cast, custom made. Not like Missouri Bullets that are made in a machine. As far as I'm concerned Matt's bullets are the premier hand cast bullets that you can buy.
Missouri Bullets, Acme Bullets, Brazo's Bullets are all bulk grade bullets, but that doesn't mean they have something wrong with them. They just have beveled bases which means they won't be as accurate at longer distances, as the flat based bullets that Matt's Bullets makes.
The beveled bases make them release from the mold much easier than flat based bullets do, they can be rather sticky sometimes.
If you buy from Missouri, Brazo's , or Acme you will see the prices that you're familiar seeing.

Sorry, I just can't remember what I paid for the last batch of cast bullets I bought from Rimrock Bullets out of Polson, MT. However, I see on their website those same bullets (.38/.357 158gr SWC-HPs with GCs) are running $38.00 per box of 100 now. Of course, that doesn't include shipping - which could be a real killer.
They are high quality bullets though. And they come in those MTM plastic boxes that can be reused over and over for completed cartridges or just spent cases.

What caliber? Style? Weight? The quality of Matt’s, GT Bullets, Quality Cast, even some of the mass production folks like Stateline and Missouri Bullets - just to name a few of my personal favorites - is what makes them worth the money. Some folks got a real talent for casting and can make near perfect bullets.

I’m not one of them people.

RimRock Bullets from 6 to 9 cents per depending on caliber, they have different categories like Cowboy Cast being the Cheapest, Top Shelf is next. Rarely do I buy their GC bullets although they are good just don’t use much of them. They can get pricey. My average cost per order is usually like 10/11 cents per with shipping.

Preciate the info. I just checked out Missouri bullets. They are $50/500. I didn’t know. I’m looking at 44 bullets by the way.

Not really interested in buying any, just checking what’s available and the cost.

I got the knack for casting.

I started casting 30 years ago and only recently quit. It’s just too easy to order online and I can find what I want. For me, it’s worth it. I’d rather spend my time loading and shooting rather than casting, loading and shooting. Wife is happier too, and you know what they say, happy wife, happy life.

Yesterday I ordered some 45C from Montana Bullet works, probably be here by the end of the work week. I’ve always been pleased with Bruce’s bullets.
I used to obsess over alloy, the mold, throats, sizes, etc. Not anymore. Time is more important, and shooting is the plan, not fluxing and pouring and endless obsessing.

I personally prefer Montana Bullet Works, but for cheaper bulk, look at GT Bullets (in Georgia) and Hunters Supply (New Mexico, I think).
Georgia Arms used to make and sell hard cast. Not sure they still do. I think they were trying to buy out Magnus Bullets (North Alabama, maybe?)

Quality Cast is good and not very expensive if you want Hi-Tek coated bullets. I buy their HT-GC rifle bullets for .30-30 and .35Rem. They’re good enough for close range hunting. I wouldn’t use them for BR competition but I don’t shoot BR so that’s fine.

EDIT: I just checked and they don’t appear to carry the 200gr .35 caliber FN anymore.

Georgia Arms still sells BRN18 HC . Very reasonably priced. That's all i shoot and excellent quality. They do my local gun show and if you call them they will bring your order to the show so you save on shipping for no extra charge.

I couldn’t, had to check myself.

Matt, does make good bullets. I have ordered from him when I wanted to play with a particular bullet but not enough I wanted to buy another mold.

I bet you could find cast bullets that do cost that much though or even more.

I think Matt's are kind of a premium bullet. Gallant, MBC, ACME...they've gone up a bit as has everyone, but they aren't in that price range. I think most of the hi-tek coated bullets I buy in 9mm, 45, 44, and 38 run somewhere between .08 to .12 each depending on the bullet, weight, and how many I'm buying. IIRC, 3 years ago I was paying about .03 for bulk hi-tek coated gallant 9mm 147 RNFP, same bullets today are about .09 ea. That's with shipping included. Gallant 300 grain 44 WFP are about .16 including shipping right now.

I guess I am not into the high tech, or high cost. All I shoot now is targets, all my hunting buddies have crossed the bar. (sailor talk for passed on). I have purchased Missouri bullets, Acme bullets, and one box of Matts bullets.
For my shooting , one just about shoots as well as the next I do say after buying one box of coated bullets am sold on em I load for and shoot, 38 special/357mag, 45 acp, 45 colt, 9mm, and 38 super. I just acquired a baby rock 380, and will start to load for them too,
I also load for 30-06 and 45-70, they will do for whatever I want to shoot. Those two rifle rounds been doing the job for over 100 years, and is good enough for me.

I'm going to try Matt's soon.
I'm interested in cast hollow points and they have a great looking 300 grain .44 bullet I'm dying to try. I don't cast for them and I don't want to tool up for it without trying some out.

They are a bit pricey, but I'm also wanting to support a fellow Arkansan.

Take a look at Missouri Bullets. They have many offerings for much less $ and I've had great experiences with them before I started pouring my own.

Western Bullet has some of the classics at fairly reasonable prices (eg 358429, 429421, 429667), although they were a lot cheaper a few years ago! He can be pretty slow to ship, so don't order if you're facing a deadline.

I don't know much about his alloy. I've only shot paper so I don't know if they expand or deform. I had some serious leading with the 429667, but others have been no problem, particularly in the .38s. I made some SERIOUS .44 Magnum loads once with the 325 gr. LBT 44-325-FN GC and those were one of the most accurate centerfire handgun rounds I ever shot.
