I'm thinking about getting a Derringer in 38sp for shooting cowboy action side matches. I could use some input on what brand to go with. Money isn't nessecarily an issue. I shoot 38sp in my cowboy pistols and rifle, it's just easier to load only one caliber.

I'm sure it's not historically accurate, but I've lusted over Bond Arms Derringers for years. Super-solid construction, they feel good in the hand, all of that. Also, they sell interchangeable barrels so you don't have to buy a whole new piece if you want to practice on the cheap.

So as long as it doesn't have to be period correct, I'd look into Bond Arms.

Anybody who is interested in winning uses a Bond. The Bond is pricy for what it is, but it is well made and is available in .38/.357. Having said that, you should also know that only the big, big matches offer Derringer side matches. And unless you have the time and money to travel all over the country, you will be lucky to attend more than one or two matches during the year where you will have an opportunity to fire two rounds through your derringer. Unless you just want a derringer, the cost/benefit ratio is in negative territory.

Our local club shoots every month of the year. We shoot pocket pistol and derringer in our side matches every month. Quite a few pards have them here.
Thought since so many were doin it I might as well do it too. We have also used them in our main matches...

Picked up a Rohm derringer today in 38 spl for 75 bucks. It'll do for what I want to do...

If you get bonds snake slayer iv you'll get a 4 inch 45/410 barrel and can get a 38/357 3inch barrel for 139.00. The trigger guard is removable if you prefer. Great gun, great fun.pricey but worth it.
