New to reloading & have a ?

Doing some practice ACP rounds with just brass & bullet. On the crimp die there is a metallic click or pop at the bottom of my stroke. I know it's the die crimping the round but is the sound and sticking normal?

Thanks Much

I don't use Dillon (I use Lee) dies, but my Factory Crimp Die definitely makes some click when the round goes through.

I'd call it normal.

What brand of crimp die and what bullet? Is it lead or FMJ?

If it is Lee FCD it may be the sound of the round going through the re-sizer and you will feel some tension or hang up, I doubt you here a die taper crimp,

Sounds like you may need to back the die out a bit. Taper crimp only enough to remove the slight case mouth flair you put on to seat the bullet.

THIS!

The tool head is, probably, tapping the bottom of the crimp die. (Which is NOT, necessarily, a bad thing.) Your crimp should be secure enough to resist bullet setback when the loaded cartridge is pressed against the surface of a bathroom scale with up to 12 to 15#'s of hand pressure.

I know you're new at this but when asking questions it's best to give us as much information as possible.

First, you said ACP rounds and even though we can guess you mean 45 ACP there are currently .380 ACP, .32 ACP and .25 ACP rounds too.

Who's dies are you using, that's also important. Bullet type would also be helpful.

Welcome to reloading...

If the crimp surface of the die is rough, it can make a sound when it turns loose of the case when pulling the round down out of the die.
