hi everyone newbie to your forum! Have been member at another one but just stumbled onto yours. My question is about crimped primer are they all they are made out to be (good) in an ar style rifle? or does it really matter? And what exactly is a crimped in primer?

A crimped-in primer is one in which the cartridge case is peened around the primer, either in a ring or at several points around the primer pocket, in order to prevent the primer from backing out under pressure.

Crimped primers are normally seen in ammunition prepared for machineguns where rapid fire can allow residual pressure to build up and pop the primer after the breechblock moves. The big problem is that the primer can tie up the gun.

I am not sure of any advantage in an AR-15, at least in a semi-auto one, but the military specifies crimped primers in its small arms ammunition out of caution.
