I aquired for a small sum of money a neglected bolt action shotgun made by Kessler 20ga, with a cutts compensator attached to the muzzle. The barrel is marked full, but the cutts compensator is missing a choke tube. I've never seen a cutts comp. up close, but it is very wide inside. By wide, I mean over an inch. I have fired it, about 10rds of slugs and buffered buckshot win #3 total, before I noticed the threading inside the compensator. I would like to find a choke for it, preferably full. I'm sure its safe to shoot without a choke, no signs of wear in the threading, and at approx. 1.25" diameter, I'm sure the shot can't come into contact with it as it leaves the muzzle. Any info or help appreciated. thanks.

Thanks for the tip. I got to shoot it at 50yds today. Two slugs out of 3 (after finding poi, need a 12 o"clock hold at the top of the target) hit the center, right next to each other. The only sight is a bead atop the cutts compensator. It does a surprisingly good job of keeping the muzzle down while firing and reduces felt recoil to some degree. Pretty nifty for $75.

Cutts, at least in 12 ga had six basic choke tubes, a spreader for skeet, an i.c., a mod, a full, a mag full and a super full. Not a good idea to shoot one without a tube in it.

I made a solid body years back along with a barrel adaptor and put it on an old 870 barrel. The solid body, that is without the cuts top and bottom, was much quieter. I won a lot of card shoots with the longest tube. With a standard cutts, the noise is horrible to those on either side of you....they are looked down on at a trap shoot.....but I just say, "wear your muffs."

Ive checked the threading inside the compesnator carefully after each shooting, and there are no signs of visible wear. Its a prettty rusted on the outside, shiny bore on the inside, gun. A good shooter for $75, not a collector's item so I'm not too worried. The inside of the cutts sompensator, which is where the thread for the choke tube is, measures out to over 1.25". Not like the modern screw-in flush chokes that are bore diameter. The compensator has a mean cannon look to it, sort of like the old english boyys anti tank rifle.

I had a cutts on my savage 720 back when i had it, the choke on it was a full choke did ok with it that way but looked for a wile for more chokes but no good, it was a good shotgun and looked rill nice with the cutts on there though.
