CVA Optima V2 pistol owners here?

So I'm a member of the Ruger Old Army club with three beautiful specimens to my name. Love shooting them at the range with a friend of mine here in town. I'll admit I'm spoiled by stainless steel guns and although the ROA is not a copy of a true antique, I appreciate it's modern improved features.
I'd love to have a BP single shot pistol for additional fun and plinking. Some time back I was interested in the Traditions Vortek inline pistol. Now, in researching my single shot pistol interests, I happen across the CVA Optima V2 pistol. Lots of nice features abound for one who can accept the non-traditional style it sports.
Stainless barrel. Quickly removable breechplug. 209 ignition. Sight rail I can mount a pistol scope on. Break open action. Lots of folks online talking about how much fun they are. But a search here only reveals one thread on the gun.
Are there any new owners here who could share their experience?
If anyone else is looking for them, what's teh lowest price you are finding?

I bought mine from Ed's Gun Shop in Vass, NC. I got my Optima 2 in stainless/black with the Blackhorn 209 breechplug and a drill bit to clean out the carbon buildup sent to my door for less than $300. Best price I could find anywhere.

With Harvester 240 PT Gold bullets in crush-rib sabots and 64 grs. of BH209, I can keep 3 shots within 2" at 100 yards from a sandbag.

I'd be interested in hearing more about them. I almost ordered one from Cabela's when they were on sale for $269 but couldn't find enough info on them. I'd be more interested in using loose powder and full diameter lead bullets than pellets and sabots.

What is it about this gun that you like?

I think ide rather have one of the Target match type like Phil has before ide want one with a different primer and larger bullet.

The kind Phil shoots ide bet you can get way more shots before you need to clean it to keep it accurate and the smaller ball you could buy a jug of 900 balls for what we pay for 100 in the .44 cal. Also they use the same cap.

The CVA optima style looks like a nice option for hunting though.

I snaged one from Cabela's when they were on sale for $269 plus a 20% off and free shipping code deal. That is the best price I have seen. I was attracted to the trigger guard release and the fact that it is rated for a magnum load of 150 grains of powder. Although CVA says the barrel length is more appropriate for 100 grains. I wasn't interested in it for a target shooter. I was drawn to it as a hunting pistol.

I have not had a chance to fire it but I am mostly impressed so far. I do wish it had a rubberised grip instead of the hard plastic, but I think it was worth all of the $200ish

I've posted about it earlier but who cares. I got one a couple years ago and so far like it very much. I had a cheap reddot handy that I installed and it was very accurate out of the box. The twist-off breechplug was as easy to remove as advertised. I've only shot pellets and sabots in mine, and it (mine at least) did need to be cleaned after about 3 shots because the sabots got really hard to go in after that. I also bought mine mainly for hunting but haven't gotten anything so far..:banghead: With my limited experience with it so far, I would recommend it.

I want a black powder hand cannon for range fun and hunting deer maybe one day. Heck if it was available in .54 caliber I'd choose that! I like boom and flash, and like the idea of a big .50 cal BP pistol for the same reason some shoot .454 Casull and .44 Magnum at the range. I'm limited in my BP experience, only having shot my three Ruger Old Army's, but as to the twist rate of the CVA Optima V2 pistol, would a lightly loaded patch and ball or conical work well with the faster twist rate meant for saboted loads? I already have a very nice Weaver 2X handgun scope and a bipod for bench use. I also used to reload shot shells and have 209 primers waiting. Thoughts appreciated. Don

I bought mine strictly for hunting. I only use BH209 because I'm lazy about cleaning and it's much cleaner than others except for the carbon buildup in the breechplug. That's what the hand twisted drill bit is for.

I have not killed a deer with it yet but just got it in Oct. I have killed one with my ROA with black powder and a 255 gr. cast flat-point bullet.

I had a shot at 145 yards at a deer but had no rest handy and couldn't hold it stable enough. I passed on the shot.

i see, what about the stuff they sell at walmart?

They sell the current muzzle loading stuff i see up there about every time i go.

I see the 209 primers and the sabots but i dont ever see any of the hotter powder just pyrodex.

It wouldnt be bad to be able to get supplies 5 minutes away if the stuff walmart sells fits?

How many shots do you usually get each outing?

Well folks my loving wife Penny said "Don just go ahead and order it. It's not that high and we are fine and I doubt you'll lose money down the road on it." Yes folks she and I are like this with each other all the time. So I did.
It was $247.57 plus $16.23 shipping and handling right to my door, NIB. Now comes the part where I ask the help of a friend of mine who reloads a lot, shoots BP a lot and hunts with BP as to proper slug size and that sort of thing. As a benchmark, I guess I'll try a few sabot loads to see how much accuracy I can expect, then move toward finding a cast slug or minnie ball that works well. As I've said, I have a Weaver pistol scope setting idle (2X) and a bipod I can borrow from rifle. Plenty of Triple 7 FFFG in stock here. Need to make a carry case, get more 209 primers, make a bench rod and a starter rod. This will be my first honest front-stuffer (my other BP's being three lovely ROA's). I know very very little about inline BP guns. Looking forward to being taught lots here. Don

That inline is a piece of cake. Just unscrew the breech plug , clean it from the breech end. You can also set the primer depth with shims so that you get no blowback at all. Loading is a snap as it has a recess in the muzzle that practically starts the bullet for you.

I carry mine with a strap attached to the swivel lugs that were installed when I got it. Mine also had a scope mount attached.

Cheaper Than Dirt emailed me late last night and provided a tracking number as a direct link. According to UPS my Optima V2 pistol will be here by the end of Friday business hours. Wow that was fast. They had it in stock at three different warehouses and gave me the best of the three prices (don't understand why the three different prices for warehouses all owned by CTD). Sure excited about my gun coming. And my wife is tickled for me too. She says "I'll call it your fence post pistol!!", Don't know what I ever did to deserve God blessing me with this woman, but I'm a thankful man for her. Don

CVA Optima V2 got here a few minutes ago.....

WOW. I did not expect such a quality feeling and looking gun at this price point. Beautiful even shiny bore. Tight lock-up. Extremely well fitted. Don't know how CVA does it at this price. And stainless.... Again. WOW..................Don

sportsman guide is the best place to buy.. i spent two days shooting mine in.4 power redfield works great.75 gr. triple 7, 250 gr.powerbelt aerolite
shot in at 55 yds. out to 100 great for deer. all in the kill zone with plenty to spare.
