CVA or TC?

I guess it depends on if you're talking about an I-line or a traditional.

I own a traditional .45 TC Hawken. It's a percussion model. It's a pretty good gun. Any accuracy problems would be attributed to the loose nut pulling the trigger - NOT the equipment.

I've never owned a CVA, so can't comment on those.

I find it really hard to believe anybody on this forum can shoot 1 hole groups at 100yds. Post a picture of your target or it's just smack talk.

Just because you can not do it, doesn't mean that others can't. It takes a lot of time and practice. I do a LOT of shooting and so you just get used to the routine from all the trigger time.

Thats not a group. Thats 1, maybe 2 shots with an INLINE and a SCOPE.

Do that with a traditional percussion or flintlock rifle, shooting a cast round ball, with iron sights and you'll have earned some respect. All you've managed to do thus far is embarrass yourself.

Here you go. This is a TC Hawken .45 with 1:48 twist. OPEN SIGHTS. Iron sights and my naked eyeball. 100 yards with WITNESS'S

Now I'll admit, the first shot was way high and the second shot was way low. First time shooting that gun at 100yds. My 2nd time shooting that rifle.

Goex 3F
50 grains
#11 percussion cap
.440 ball
Pillow ticking patch

TC has begun backing off on their "lifetime warranty" to the original buyer.

TC has always had a better finish and their percussion guns are good.

TC flint locks have only fair lock geometry and the early ones had crappy case hardened frizzens.

TC never made a really top notch round ball barrel, even CVA Spanish barrels were far better than the TC round ball barrels,

To a certain extent it is a Ford Chevy Dodge Thing.

IMO, the cva mountain rifle was the best production gun ever made for round balls.

TC has had some design problems and CVA with some models had serious quality control problems, especially in the early days.

ChrisHarris, that is THREE shots with a $180 muzzleloader, and a $50 scope.

Now this is another inline but with open sights at 100 yards and FIVE shot group toward the center with 100gr BH209. The other 3 to the right were with 90gr BH209.

Again that $180 scoped CVA but this time at 160 yards. First 3 shots on the far right, next 3 towards the bulls eye were again 3 more shots and then a final adjustment shot directly over the bulls eye. Compare the first two, 3 shot groups and they mimick each other in group size! For some reason though, maybe barrel heat? I always throw the 3rd shot out of the group! Drives me nuts.

Open sight $180 CVA @ 100 yards. Again, without a cool down #3 always takes off on me :(

Even my ol pappy can shoot pretty good @ 100 yards.

A first time shooter can even pull off a great group after me teaching him how to calm his breathing, squeeze the trigger and how to consistently seat the bullet on top of the powder.

And if you want to see BOTH the Wolf and Optima in action at 100 and 200 yards, shot by my 16 year old nephew, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WN6WXdGzs74&list=UUh-Mwm7N7yLyrm8U1lVsbQg&index=1&feature=plcp

Again guys, don't get all upset because YOU did not take the time to learn what your rifles likes or that you don't take the time to figure out how to shoot it.

Oh and the open sight traditional muzzle loader challenge part.... Custom built .50cal 1:48 twist deep groove rifling, 80gr Pyrodex RS, .490 homecast round ball, .018" patch. @ 100 yards. I took 3 shots and clearly can make out the first 2 shots. Maybe i missed the 3rd?

Where are your targets?

OK, you forced me to do it. My 100 yd 5 shot open sight T/C Flintlock. In
competion, we don't shoot for group but the "10" ring is what were after.

And again at 50 yds, Were after the "10" ring.

so why do the traditional guys whine and cry about inlines being so accurate when you just showed us what a FLINTLOCK can do with open sights at 100 yards? You've probably got the most accurate tc flintlock... or Traditional TC i have ever seen to be quite honest. But i am sure it took a good deal of work to get everything figured out. Most shooters cant hit a single shot when theres a 10" target set up.

Because they're whiners and NOBODY respects a whiner. :D

I really think my 2" 100 yard groups with irons and traditional Hawken Hunter Carbine caplock and my CVA scoped "wolf" are good enough for hunting. Those flinter targets are impressive. :D

yeah but take them flinters out in the mountains where the winds a howlin and the sky is a sleetin. You'll find'em back at camp tellin ya its to wet to go out hunting. Heck they fire 7 out of 10 times in dry weather! :D

I ain't gettin' in on the traditional vs modern thing. Laws in most states now days for BP seasons require traditional. I have both. I have just shot my first deer with a BP this year with my CVA inline and scope mounted. In Texas, we have no BP seasons in MY county at least, so I can cheat since I'd be using a .308 Winchester or TC Contender in .30 30 or my .257 Roberts, otherwise. The Roberts is a 1/2 MOA gun, will out shoot ALL your BP stuff. :neener: My old eyes like glass, though, and the inline unloads without having to fire it out or mess with CO2 bottles and it cleans up a lot easier and it's a lot easier to swab between shots at the range and, well, I LIKE it. :D I think of it more as a big thumper, say .50/90 sharps, but without the hassle and expense of having to buy brass. I really don't have a Davy Crockett complex with my rifles. My hawken was bought for New Mexico BP seasons where my inline would be illegal, but it's also accurate and fun to shoot. :D
