I have a CZ-75 Compact. I use it as my daily carry piece. Lately it seems to lock up, open breech, just like when you expend your last round with a mag still in the pistol. It is well cleaned and oiled. It just has this tendency to lock up, keeping the hammer cocked and me trying to work the slide back and forth to try and get back to hammer down with round in chamber. There are still available rounds in the magazine. It is taking me between 2 and 5 minutes to do this and I am losing faith in my primary carry weapon.

I have not contacted CZ yet on the issue. I wanted to first air my issue on THR and hope that someone has experienced this and has an answer to this problem that I am experiencing.

Any thoughts, ideas or questions on this would make me feel better about things right now. Until I feel better about things I am going to use my Chiefs Special.

If its just locking back on a partial mag, you may need to take some material off the slide stop lever nub. If its locking back with ammo in the mag, and a case in the chamber (if I read your post right), you got issues. The slide lock back issue has happened to me on my 75B SA, and filing down the engagement surface (that the follower pushes up on) where the bullets are contacting it, will fix it. If its under CZs 3yr warranty, or 5yr, send it back.:)

Thanks for the reply. You understood right. Ammo still in mag, with one in the chamber. Hammer stuck in cocked position.

JDGray has it right. Take your slide off and put the slide stop back in frame. If you insert a loaded mag you can see how close the rounds come to the slidestop. Now unload the mag and put it back in the frame so you can see how much you can file off of the slide stop. Take off a little at a time. You still want the follower to push up the slide stop when the mag is empty. CZcustom also sells slide stops that are already shortened to solve this problem. http://czcustom.com/Slide-stop-CZ-75/85/Sp01-9mm.aspx Mark

Shipping it back to CZ. Customer Service was nice enough on the phone.

Will let everyone knows how it goes.

Before you start filing on the slide stop, try different ammo with a different bullet design.

Bullet shape is generally what causes slide stop interferance and early slide lock.

Most slide stops were designed with RN-FMJ ammo in mind.
Wide nose JHP or TC bullets often hit the slide stop and lock it up.
