If carrying a CZ 83 for CCW does it matter (as a safety issue) if it is carried with the hammer back and the safety on (cocked and locked) or if the hammer is lowered with a round chambered? I am not talking about which is "faster" as the CZ is SA/DA unlike a 1911. I believe the 83 has a firing pin block but someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I believe you are right. Also the 83 hammer does not sit directly on the firing pin but on a half notch. The 83 sure is a sexy weapon even for an ugly gun.

Your choice.

The only difference I can see, other than trigger pull, is a very small factor, perhaps inconcequencial...hammer down the spur is a "clothing catcher", while hammer cocked seems less prone to catch on something. Depending on how you carry, this may or may not matter.

It doesn't matter as it can be carried safely either way. One of the endearing features of some of the CZs.

The CZ83 is mechanically safe carried either way, I carry mine hammer down so that I have the more deliberate, DA pull for the first shot.
