I finally got a 97B and took it to the range this morning. I had left the other magazine at home and had only one to work with. The gun had been field stripped and lubed the night before. shot paper at 10 yrs and 25 yrds and then my 8 inch gong at 25 yrds.
I shot 37 rds of winchester white box factory for the first 4 magazines ( well 3 and 7/10ths) and the 230 grain RN hytek coated MBC and 200 gr LSWC.
I am hoping this is a break in issue but I've never had much of a cz break in among my other guns except for the first magazine on a p10c that jammed several times but had no problems after.
Reviewing my footage, I had 2 failure to feeds in the first 2 magazines with RN FMJ factory rounds.
3rd magazine(still factory), the mag wouldn't go in all the way unless I slammed it all the way in. This I later discovered was positional and more prone to happen if the magwell is above horizontal .
with my 230 gr RN reloads i had several rounds where the hammer fell but nothing happened. some of this were likely a not too well seated primer as it would fire on restriking(although this doesn't seem to happen that much with my 1911s and sig220- it may still happen though). The others had me puzzled. It was, I found out later, that the round didn't fully chamber so the slide was slightly out of battery but the hammer would fall with no result. I had a tough time racking out the offending round and on exam there is no primer strike. reinserted into the magazine again it would feed and then fire. In my 4th magazine(reloads) it took me 3:43 to shoot 10 rounds as it happened 2 or 3 times. I hadn't yet discovered that the slide hadn't gone to full battery. when I discovered that for subsequent magazines, pushing the slide with my thumb to make it go into full battery would result in the round firing. surprisingly this never occured with the swc rds but those all went into the case gauge.
i'll shoot a hundred rounds of factory first next time and see what happens. this is disappointing.
on the plus side, the grip was ok. It was accurate enough when working but I think the gun may be shooting high and slightly right at 25 yrds but that may be me.
I did shoot 100 rds of swcs and 200 rds of 230 RN PC and 37 WWB and the slightly out of battery and not firing issue was still happening.
surprisingly this didn't happen with the 200 gr swcs.
