So, my continuing quest for a .22lr is coming to a close I hope.

I had about decided to go ahead and go for a Ruger 77/22 because it just fit better than the 10/22. Then I was at the local range yesterday and happened to look on the rack to see a couple of CZ452 training models for $219.00.

A couple of questions:

1. $219.00 a good price for this?
2. What makes this model so much cheaper than the other CZ452 rifles?
3. Is it scopeable?.....CZ page makes no mention.
4. Can the 5 round magazine be switched out for a 10 round?

On a side note....any experience with the 77/22?

I think the Training rifle is the Special/Standard. I ordered one from whittakersguns.com $179 + $10 shipping + $25 dealer transfer fee. I ordered the Training rifle but the importer tag on the box with the serial# has it being a Special.

I'd snatch up that CZ as quick as you could! I paid $240 for mine, taxes and all from a gun store in Reno two years ago that didn't know anything about CZ's except that the owners friend had one in .270 and "really liked it." I'm very glad I bought it, it gets 1.25" groups from a bench at 100 yards with Federal American Eagle. The LUX comes with dove-tail mounts, and some people say that they are a special metric diameter, but my cheap Simmons 3-9x scope rings fit perfectly. Here's a picture of the ground squirrel killer:

CZ452 Rifle

I purchased the CZ 452 training rifle (.22 cal) last year and am using it for the Sporter Rifle competition at our local rifle club. I paid about $200 from a local FFL. The training model has a beechwood stock. The LUX model which has the same design has a Turkish walnut stock and runs about a $100 more.

Great rifle...very well made and accurate. Has a built in base for a scope. Am using a Bushnell Sportsman 3x9x40 AO scope on it. Works great. I know a couple other guys that own the same model and love it as well. Money well spent.

Good luck!

Hmmm....just might have to take a drive this evening. Sounds like the biggest difference is the lower grade of wood used for the stock. For my purposes, just recreational shooting, sounds like it's just the ticket.

"What new rifle, honey? Oh that old thing....had that for years....":D

Hope you can find the training model...

I just bought the Lux; tried to get the training model but none of the distributors my dealer called had them in stock. CZ's web site says the training model is sold out for 2003, but you might be able to find a dealer that has or can get one.

A couple of questions:

1. $219.00 a good price for this?
<I think you can do better, I gave 189 IIRC, but I looked for a little while. Then again, 219 out the door ain't something to cry about.>

2. What makes this model so much cheaper than the other CZ452 rifles?
<The stock and final fit and finish, which is very good on the Special/Trainer all the same. Mine is the Special and they must make tons of them to hold the $ down. Frankly the 452 Special busts the competitions chops for the quality at this price.>

3. Is it scopeable?.....CZ page makes no mention.
< You bet, go to rimfirecentral .com and do a search. Brookie makes some accessories and there are mounts available for it at much less than the overpriced (IMO) CZ mounts. I have a 10$ set on mine that work very well:)
The issue is getting a set on mounts that fits the 11mm rail and still clear the rear leaf sight but it can be done. No problemo. This little rifle, with the Euro hog's back stock, is designed to be shot with the iron sights provided, which are great. Your noggin will have a high placement when you scope it if you leave the rear sight in place>

4. Can the 5 round magazine be switched out for a 10 round?
<Yeppers. The 10 round is plastic but works fine. Not too cheap however.>

CZ 452=good choice. You will really like this rifle.

I think that I'm going to go up and get it this afternoon.... I have a little birthday money to spend so it will only be about $100 out of my pocket.

I'm taking the SKS out to the range tomorrow so it may be nice to have the CZ...

I guess it's time to change your sig line to include the new family member....
