CZ82 question, and why it's important to check used guns

be warned, lead bullets in a Poly barrel are a manufactors no-no.though,I have done it without any problems. jwr

Not all manufacturers say lead is prohibited in polygonal barrels... some do, some don't. I only have the manual for my CZ83, which also comes with the polygonal barrel in it's 9mm Mak iteration, but only says limit ammo to factory ammo certified by CIP or SAAMI. No specific prohibition of lead.

when i looked at my first one i though it was shot out and would'nt hit the barn from the inside. After shooting it it is one of my favorites due to its accuracy.

My 82 is extremely accurate with its "smooth bore". Ragged holes at 25ft.

It's by far the best sub $400 small pistol buy out there right now.

"They're are chrome lined as well."

Can you reference that statement. The only place I've seen it is in forums, but never have I found it in any official specs. Can you provide an authoritative source for that statement please?
They are chrome lined. One can verify this himself.

You can see the chrome lining. It is a dull silver that looks like it was painted on. It will extend out of the bore and chamber to wrap around the edge a little bit at both the muzzle and breach of the barrel.

I have a number of firearms with chrome lined barrels. They all have this characteristic.

Since this topic resurfaced, I'll add one more comment concerning the barrels.

I've had several of these pistols, both CZ82 and CZ83, and I've looked at many more. Some of the makarov polygonal barrels have very evident rifling, and some, simply put, do not and appear to be completely smooth.

Because this pistol is sold with a smooth bore for practice ammo, I wonder if that is what some people are seeing... the smoothbore barrels made specifically for the rubber practice ammo.

I've owned three 9mm Mak chambered CZs and two had rifling I could see, (similar to HK rifling). One looked to be smooth, not one hint of rifling. Personally, I think some practice barrels snuck into the mix.

Honestly, I don't know what the deal is with these barrels. I have two CZ82s and can't see any spiral effect in the bores. All I can see is a faint distortion in the light that tells me it's not just a smooth tube. However, they are dead nuts accurate and don't show any signs of keyholing or other abnormalities.

Perhaps the difference in the CZ82 barrels is due to manufacturing changes or different barrel subcontractors. This type of thing often happens in military contracts. Take for example, the Enfield and Springfield rifles. Some have just two land rifling, while others have multiple lands.

I'd imagine it would take a heck of a lot of rounds to wear out a chrome lined barrel with no lands or grooves to start with. These guns just aren't that old. Consider that they started going into service about the same time that the Berretta M9s started service with the US.

$159 is a GREAT price! I looked at one a few days ago - the only one locally available - and it was priced at $239.95 and NO discount given. It did have two mags and a holster but I'd rather pay $159 and buy another mag later.

Uhhhh, I don't think so.

atblis ,
Can you explain to the rest of us what the difference is from the smoothbore made for rubber practice ammo and a regular barrel. How do you tell one from the other?

Beause people with these "smoothbore" CZ82s shoot them with regular ammo, and they shoot just fine.

I've yet to see a report of a Cz82 that didn't shoot accurately.

Where are you getting this smooth bore rubber bullet thing from?

I doubt those rubber bullet barrels were ever used with CZ82s. Barrels swaps on these guns is not trivial, it would have to be installed on a gun dedicated to this use only. Why would the military do that?

I'd bet these barrels were some CZ83 special order for police use, perhaps in shoot houses or something to prevent penetration of walls.

The PA pistols are more or less glorified blank firing pistols. The CZ83 version is no exception. It is not simply a CZ83 with a different barrel.
