Any thread mentioning the actor who played the dad in this classic family movie is totally gun-related, since the movie was contained that classic mantra, repeated endlessly by millions of mothers across America (mine was one of them): "You'll shoot your eye out!"

One of America's most underrated actors. Classic role as the DI in the movie, "Baby Blue Marine" with Jan Michael Vincent.

I agree with chipperman. Night Stalker was the best. Karl Kolchak ran afoul of the nastiest beasts that ever existed. He was a very good actor. Christmas Story has become a classic.:(

Concur. Night Stalker and A Christmas Story are protrayals he'll always be remembered for.

"Kolchak: The Night Stalker" was far superior to the watered down ripoff of the same type of story known as "The X-files":D

I'll miss him. The Night Stalker was a cool movie, but the series, though OK, wasn't up to the original pilot. A Christmas Story is a classic and my favorite Christmas movie. Isn't it everybody's?:D

They talk about his playing cranky roles in that article. He was one of the best at that. From the movie Raw Deal (lotsa guns in that one!) in which he starred with Arnold Schwarzeneggar, where a nurse is trying to get him back in therapy for his shattered body: I've no desire to became an accomplished cripple. Now push me back to my room or out into traffic, I don't give a s*** which!

The movie "Christmas Story"....

very well could be about me. He was one of my favorite actors....chris3

Yes, he was underated, but made it a lot farther than most actors and for good reason. McGavin was damn good.

"What did you say? I thought so...... Get in the car."

And it wasn't Oh Fudge. :)

"McGavin was damn good." Amen

May he rest in peace. It's said celebrities die in "threes" with Don Knots and McGavin gone, wonder who #3 will be?

Take Care

I will always remember him as Kolchak: The Night Stalker

Agreed.

The Night Stalker was really good and ahead of its time.

"Judge for yourself the believability, and then try to tell yourself, whereever you may be, it couldn't happen here"

Godspeed McGavin.
