Guys,

I have a Dan Wesson Bobtail Commander .45. Shoots real good but I understand the BOB was discontiued from the line.

Now my BOB has serial number P4xxx, is that a low one? It has no checkering on the front strap like almost all the photos I see of these guns.

Also parts, the extractor is a S&W style that rides over the cartridge rim. Is this a special extractor as for parts? Is DW (or CZ) the only place to get them?

Thanks,

Deaf

The Dan Wesson CBOB has not been discontinued...it is still in production for the CA market. The CBOB comes from the factory with a smooth frontstrap. For the rest of the country, they have upgraded the CBOB to the VBOB as part of the Valor line.

I'm pretty sure that the Dan Wesson 1911s use a standard internal extractor common to most other 1911s on the market...it is not designed to snap over the cartridge rim. Dropping a round into the chamber of a 1911 and allowing the extractor to snap ove over the rim will stress the part and cause it to fracture

As of 2011 the CBOB is no more. At least that is what I read. It is not in the 2011 catalog.

You are right, it was not intended to be in the 2011 catalog...they are not suppose to build that many of them (I read the number, but it escapes me) and they are earmarked for CA.

Much like the Sig 220/226 ST models

Well looks like 200 might be right. They are not all going to CA. Severncustoms got one in his first shippment of 2011 in NV which he is selling for $1549...which IMHO is absurd. Paid $750 or so OTD for my LNIB one a few years back.

This limited-production firearm is CA-Legal, and is just a fantastic gun, period. All-stainless construction, featuring tritium night sights, tool-steel fire control group, and chock full of name brand (Ed Brown, EGW, Wolff, etc.) small parts.
