Why have you made the line up of chamberings for the classy #1 so boring? Years and years I've waited for the chance; now the kids are grown, I've got a job with decent pay and good bonuses and you've taken away my dream - a #1 Light Sporter in 7X57 (yeah, I can get it in the International, but it ain't a sporter!). If I couldn't have 7X57, a 9.3 in a Medium Sporter would do just fine, but alas those are gone in place of a few ho-hum regular rifle bores and a couple of revolver cartridges.

Ruger, oh Ruger, the #1 deserves better! Please bring back the chamberings deserving of such a classy gun!
 
You'll have a long wait...more time to work on your meter :) ... Ruger production can't keep up with the current demand for what they do offer.
 
I love Rugers and own quite a few, you got to question their decisions lately, especially since Mr. Ruger died. they seem to discontinue what works and sells good.

Right. That's what created a backlog of orders so large that they had to notify all distributors that they would not take another single order until they could catch up with the standing orders. When your manufacturing can't keep up with the demand, that's a sure sign that you are producing products that don't 'sell good'.

Yes, that's why Ruger has turned a profit every year of its existence, operates on cash and has no debt. Most folks would say that Ruger has been much more responsive to customer demands and more forthcoming with new models since ole Bill died but I reckon everybody sees it differently. :rolleyes:

While it may work well, and you and I may like it, that does not mean it sells enough to show a profit. Ruger has done a pretty good job of making guns that work and that they can make a profit on.

None of the gun companies top of the line guns sell well. Too many cheap shooters not willing to pay for them. All of the gun companise have given up the race to build the best gun. The goal now is to produce the cheapest gun they can sell. It is not the gun companies fault. They are only responding to what consumers are buying.

Ruger knows what they are doing and they know what sells. The oddballs never do as well. Ruger is building guns at full tilt and can't keep up.
 
I had been wanting RUGER to make the M77/.357 MAG. for yrs. & they did. I finely get to pick mine up on friday ! I know it will be worth the wait ! :)
 
to address the scarcasm, I own lots of Rugers dating back to the 70s including old minis. what I was saying is rifles like the #1 which I love and own a few of, are chambered in great calibers, then discontinued in that caliber (.308, .220 swift, to name a couple), their SR9 had to be basically recalled, the problem with the SR11 also is the same, problems with the safety kept it off the market and back orders are a result. I have bought 3 rugers in the last year, a #1Varmint in .22-250, a .357/9mm convertible revolver, a mini 14 tactical and am waiting on an M77 in .257 Roberts. I aint putting Ruger down by a long shot, but I see problems with management when you got back orders like they got now. if any of you scarcastic guys buy more Rugers than me, then feel free to make light of me. I plan on buying at least 3 more in the next few weeks, great firearms, dependable that I really like, but for whatever, something aint right in the management department.

Great choice - .257 Roberts M77 has been my favorite rifle since I bought mine in '87. Still mad at them for moving the safety to the bolt though. I do question the business sense of most of their dealers, at least around here. I've drooled over No. 1s for years but never actually handled one. When I finally got enough saved up to get serious, I called all the local dealers and none stock any - "too expensive" - what, really? I finally had to drive over 100 miles to Bud's just to get one in my hands. They'll get my order if I ever figure out what model (all weather probably) and caliber (that's the hard part).
 
as much as I love .308s, my dream #1 would be in 7mm-08, but I doubt they will offer that chambering anytime soon. my No. 1 Varmint .22-250 shoots 1/2" groups, though most people will tell you No. 1s are not known as tackdrivers.
 
I happened upon a ruger no 1 in 270 win which is my favorite caliber. It was on consignment in a gun shop that I frequent that is very reputable. The minute I saw what caliber it was I knew I was screwed and about the spend some money that I hadn't planned on. It belonged to a retired man that was selling off all of his collection. I have always wanted one but would have preferred the stainless version with the laminated stock. Ruger quit making it though and this one also. This one is the sporter version with a 26 inch barrel. Now I need to spend even more money on a good scope. I'm thinking Zeiss Conquest 3x9-40.
 
I have 3 Ruger rifles and 3 Ruger revolvers at the moment. The rifles are a No. 1 in 6.5x55 Swedish, a Ruger 77RSI in .308 Win in Stainless and a 77RSI in .270 Win in matte blue. I have toyed with getting a 9.3x74 No. 1 or a 77 Hawkeye African in 9.3x62. I have also thought about a No. 1 in .35 Whelen (which is sitting on the shelf in one of my favorite gun stores.

The revolvers are old model Vaqueros, two 5-1/2" .45 Colt/.45ACP convertible and a Birdshead grip 4-5/8 in .45 Colt.

Their guns may not be the most accurate (though all three rifles are sub-MOA shooters) but they're the strongest and most fun.

There will be more in my future.

The back orders aren't because Ruger management is messed up. Demand for their products has risen. That's good for the bottom line. The question is how long are they going to be selling rifles like this? If sales stay this way, then they'll add capacity. If the high sales is only temporary due to the looming election or other seen factors, then they'll just catch up.

Ruger is doing a good job as far as running a company.

I respectfully disagree. I think Ruger is more on the ball lately than many gun companies.
They're cranking out things shooters want like small, concealable handguns. They figured out how to use polymer to make a revolver. They rebuilt the high capacity 10/22 magazine into something durable and reliable and delivered it to the public. They tackled the Scout concept, albeit with some flaws (that I could probably live with). They also just came out with the 10/22 take-down, which I think will prove wildly popular.
To the OP, who wants a No.1 in 7x57mm, maybe find a used rifle with the same size cartridge head and have it rebarreled to get exactly what you want. I've not looked over that round for a long time, but isn't it the same size case head as 30'06 and that general family of rounds?

I wasn't clear in my first post, typing on my phone that time. Mine is a 7x57. There should still be an add with pics up in the classifieds. My boy didn't draw a tag, so I'm not in a huge hurry to sell. That said, it's available to a good, loving home.
