After reading how accurate, reliable, and fun the Hi-Point 995 carbine can be I am really considering it for my first carbine and first few firearms. However, there is a slight problem. I live in Ohio and the legal age to purchase handgun ammo is 21. To purchase a rifle in Ohio the legal age is 18. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a carbine considered a rifle? If it is and I can legally purchase the 995, then will I have problems getting ammo for it? Anyone run into a problem like this?

i had the same problem, i was 18 when i got my 995 carbine. i just went to wally world told them its a carbine im shooting (even through i had a C9 psitol as well) and had them look it up if they didn't listen to me. then i was all good.

i shot one of these a friend had a few years back. theyre pretty fun really. the ammo is cheap and overall the gun is basiclly cheap, so abusing it doesnt really matter.

i do have to say though that we had a lot of jams with it. make sure you clean it often

I just had a funny visual. I remember sometimes underaged kids would stand outside a store and ask adults to buy cigaretts for them. Mabey you can stand outside a gun store and ask adults to buy bullets for you. :)

Yes, you will have a problem with some stores and the argument will be that it is primarily a pistol round.

I had the same problem with 9mm ammo when I was younger. I just caused a scene with the clerk and he sold me the ammo to shut me up. Not good advice, but it worked.
