Hi all, got the itch for another 22 handgun. So it's down to the above two. Strickly a indoor range toy, usually shooting at 10-15 yrds. Both feel fine in my hand, like the sights on both and neither trigger is terrible. I've read reviews on both and both have good or fair at best. I think the customer service edge would go to Keltec. The Keltec does have one very strong thing going for it, It's less than half the price of the Sig. So what does the High Road gang think. Appreciate any input.

I have the keltec. Got it when it first came out. It is very reliable and easy to shoot. I've been tempted to shoot a steel challenge match with it just for the heck of it. I paid $170 new when I got mine. I think msr now is $199 which is still a great deal.

I would go with the P-17, though I may be biased (tactiKEL). For a range “toy” you get a fine gun and can buy many bricks of ammo for the price of the Sig. If you really can’t shoot it well, you can sell/trade it for a minimal loss.

If it is anything like the PMR-30 in 22 magnum I would choose Kel-tec also.

I've shot both and prefer the kel tec. Personally, I'd do that and a few thousand rounds of ammo for the same price as the SIG.

Yah, I'm leaning towards the Kel-Tec. I'll probably pick it up tomorrow if my LGS still has it. Just can't beat the price and for what I want it for it should serve me nicely. Good customer service is a must for me and from what I've read Kel-Tec has just that. Considering price, customer support and it's exactly what I'm looking for ( A fun gun). Appreciate all the replies!

To be fair have not tried the Keltec. However, recently purchased the Sig P322 and then saw all of the negative "barrel leading" videos and began to may think I had made a mistake. Especially after the first range trip when indeed the barrell after about 40 rounds was leaded and accuracy was down. Cleaned it good, on day 2 it took over 100 rounds before lead started to show up, again cleaned it. On day 3 shot over 200 rounds and no lead (and I was using really cheap ammo).
Since have not seen any lead build up or problems. Trigger started out as real good, now excellent. I would highly recommend it if you also have a P-320 or P-365XL. The optic sight is a must on all of these from my point of view.
Accuracy on a par with target Ruger 22/45. 20 round mags are a plus and easy to load.

Night and day comparison, It would be more of a Sig vs the SW victory

The Sig holds a few more rounds than the KT but just for indoor shooting get the KT Use the money for ammo!

If you plan on optics then that is something to consider.

It depends on the intended use. As a firearm to practice with using cheap 22LR ammo instead of 9mm, it "feels" a lot like the P-320 and the P365XL. So, shooting it as practice when your goto gun is a Sig makes it a lot more attractive. Also, if you are going to use as a "starter" gun for new shooters it makes the price difference minor.
Handgun optics today is becoming the norm, especially for shooters with "old" eyes. Optics reduce the time needed to get on target and increase accuracy for everyone.

My post was for the OP. If he wants optic ready I do not think the KT is. the Sig can be.

IMG_0740.JPG I had light strike problems with my P322 almost immediately. First with Agulia, then with pretty much everything. I sent it back to Sig and got it back in nine day's. It's working fine so far. Since I own one I can say this without people thinking I'm against Sig, but the Taurus TX22 is a better buy.

Kel Tecs are pretty much hit or miss. They outsource a lot of their parts and it's not uncommon for them to have problems. They will fix them, but we all know what a pain that is. That is my experience dating back to 2000 or 2001.

What did Sig replace to get it running?

triplebike, i’m curious as to decision process that led to just two choices, the keltec p17 or sig p322.

the ruger sr22 is my 22lr pistol of choice. i’ve put almost 15,000 rounds through it. small enough to carry, reliable, easy to fieldstrip.

I have about the same round count through my SR22 and feel the same way you do about it. I also have 3 Ruger MKIV's. A lite and two 22/45's. The lite and one of the 22/45's have red dots. Never owned a KEL-TEC and am intrigued by the P17. The gun seems to fit my hand nicely and I like the sights. The $200 price tag is also very easy to live with and at that price I'm pretty sure I'll get my investment back in fun times at the range.

PS- There also isn't much I don't like about the Sig either.

excellent. i was sorely tempted by a keltec p17 until i found a ruger sr22 4.5” recently, which has shot (pun intended) my 22lr handgun budget for awhile. the 4.5” is stuck in delivery purgatory somewhere.

None of the Kel-tecs I've had over the years had any issues. Breaking my new P17 in tomorrow and hoping to keep the streak alive!

I never used the SIg but I have the P17. I paid like $220 OTD for it, and it came with 3 mags. Mine is suppressed and I use it for pest control. No problems with it, and it even cycles with aguiilla subsonic ammo.

Called my LGS today to see if they received any more P17's (The one I was going to purchase got sold before I could get there). They did not receive any new ones, BUT they just took in a used LNIB one. It can't be picked up today since it hasn't been entered into their inventory yet. I've been dealing with this LGS for over 10 years and they know me by name, so there was no problem with them holding it for me until tomorrow. So it looks like Christmas came a little late for me this year, but better late than never! $159 OTD

my only concern here is that keltec’s lifetime warranty only applies to the original, first, purchaser of a new firearm, but $159 otd is truly compelling. i would worry a bit why this particular p17 was sold off by its original owner so quickly.

Definitely Keltec. I have a KS7 that I love, never had any problem with it but never really looked at their .22 pistols. Now I'm taking a hard look at their P17 and might just buy it, the cheapest I can find it for is $219.
