Decisions, Taurus G3 or SW SD9VE

I don't understand posts that recommend a pistol for the OP to purchase. His question was which one to sell.

SD9VE > Taurus !

Too many other options in the current market that are higher quality duty grade handguns on the market that aren't much more expensive than Taurus semiautos.

For the record, I've owned 8 Taurus handguns in the past several years. Two PT111 G2 and two Taurus 738 TCP both in sets of blued and stainless. I also own a Taurus G2s, PT911, Model 85, and Model 942. If you look at my post history, I've been a vocal supporter of Taurus, so I'm not a hater or care about the price point. It's just their semiautos feel cheaper, less robust, and not really duty worthy. I no longer support their revolvers either after talking to long time Taurus members about their experience over on the TaurusArmed.net forum. Taurus CS and QC is bad, they are extremely stingy with spare parts as it's their policy to to sell a lot of them their customers, and they are often out of parts and have to wait for them to ship from Brazil to do warranty repairs. I'd trust the build quality and reliability from the SD9VE much more so than any Taurus.
I’ve had only good experience with Taurus. I have three revolvers which have all been perfect, especially for the money. One of my CC guns is a Taurus snubnose. The Taurus PT1911 was a very solid-feeling, totally reliable 1911. Never a single failure (admittedly probably only about 500 rounds through it). And my TX22 has been shockingly great. I really expected it to jam a lot considering it is an inexpensive 22 semi. So I think Taurus has by and large fixed its QC issues of the past. For the price range, at least.

That said, the SD9VE is rock solid and totally trustworthy for self defense. I’m not a fan of its trigger but whatever. I’d keep the S&W of the two choices. Although it seems too large for CC if that’s the goal.

They have not. When hardcore Taurus lovers on their own forum are complaining, posting about problems, brainstorming on how the fix these common problems and design flaws themselves, and are warning people against buying newer models of some Taurus offerings, you know there's a problem. Not too long ago I was making the same argument as you until multiple TaurusArmed forums members brought common issues to my attention, and I started to research via Google and YouTube (video comments included from actual owners).

Yes, they've gotten much better than a decade ago, but they aren't on the same level as S&W, Glock, Beretta, HK, CZ, Springfield, etc build quality, longevity, or even reliability wise.

I would keep the S&W SD9VE or sell em both and get a PSA Dagger.

I've been wanting to buy a cheap 9mm that I can recommend to friends that are on a tight budget. Being left handed I just can't buy a gun with a single side right hand only thumb safety - Taurus G2/G3.

Instead I found a S&W SD9VE & added a then $50 Apex Glock style trigger (now $65 with inflation...) to it, and found I like it.

I would recommend a PSA Dagger over both of them. However, you just cant find them at Gun Stores as easily as you can the Taurus or S&W.

I gotcha. I’ve had good luck with Taurus—and most of my Taurus shooting is revolvers— but it’s just anecdotal. I occasionally carry a Taurus snubnose but for the most part I rely on Glock and Canik for my home and self defense.
