Man shot after striking woman, taking her pickup
By MIKE GLENN
Copyright 2004 Houston Chronicle

A southwest Houston woman allegedly fatally shot her boyfriend today after he took her pickup and assaulted her, police said.

The victim, who has not been identified, was shot about 10:30 a.m. after the two quarrelled at their home in the 13200 block of Santa Teresa. When he drove away in her pickup, the woman ran after him and climbed in back of the moving vehicle, police said.

When the suspect allegedly pulled a pistol from her purse, the boyfriend stopped the pickup and climbed into the truck bed. Police said the boyfriend took the gun away and struck the girlfriend.

The girlfriend got the gun back and fired once. The boyfriend was struck in the chest and died at the scene, police said.

Houston Fire Department paramedics treated the woman at the scene for her injuries. She was still being questioned by detectives today.

The Story

Hmmm .... interesting. Pity tho it is this type of case and not the ''classic'' type of SD shooting..... which I wish we saw reported (and well) way more often.

Right now it seems like that sorta deal where the facts (the REAL facts) may not really be known. I'll reserve judgement ... for now.

Stories like this are acceptable to the media because it reinforces the left's belief that guns are only used for killing family and friends during late-night drunken arguments.

And they also like the part where the gun gets taken away.

Ok, so instead of calling the police, she RUNS AFTER him and jumps in. Not only does she jump in the back, she pulls a gun from her purse. I don't see how her life was in danger in the back of the truck, but I suppose we don't know if he was swerving or what not, the article doesn't say.

Once she pulled the gun on him, he gets out and instead of running, he takes the gun away and smacks her with it. I say they are both at fault, and she's the one that introduced the gun into the scene. I don't see how her life was in danger when he was driving away in her truck to begin with. I don't see this as a defensive shooting. If her life was in danger when he took the gun the first time, he would have shot her, not pistol whipped her. The BF was the one leaving the scene and trying to protect himself once she pulled the gun out.

Not a defensive situation

The woman should have called police instead of jumping into the truck bed. Insurance would have paid for the vehicle if she didn't get it back, it was not worth risking her life. I won't be surprised if she faces charges. OTOH, if she went on trial and I was on the jury, I probably wouldn't convict her. The boyfriend has no right to steal a vehicle, whether it belongs to his girlfriend, his mama or a complete stranger. He put himself in that predicament by stealing the truck. I don't think pursuing him with a gun was the right choice, but he is ultimately at fault for what happened. Assuming, of course, that the "facts" reported are true.
