I define my collection as "sporting arms of the 50s/early-60s and before." They are guns that a sportsman of that time period (when I was a kid) would have had in his gun cabinet. They attract me because the workmanship is extraordinary and the lines and designs are often pure artwork.

I was wondering what other gun people collect. What paremeters have you placed on your collection? For example, I have friends that collect only Model 1911s, or only military rifles of the 19th century, or only bolt actioned Winchester 22s.

So how about it? What's in your collection and what makes them special to you?

I've pretty much nailed it down to firearms of the 20th and 21st century. At first I was going to be 1911 guy, changed to S&W revolver guy, then changed to wannabe AMU sniper guy, then I was going to be almost obsolete caliber guy. But now I've decided I like em all pretty much and will just grab what I can get a good deal on.

main battle rifles of WWII (I've got a Carcano now, need an Arisaka)

Other than those, it's working guns. M70 Winchester .280 Featherweight for the deer, AR for the coyotes, and Stevens 311/Beretta 1200 for birds.

Eclectic, from hamburger to prime rib. That pretty much describes my gun collection.
Guns from different countries that used to fight against each other and now they all get along just fine.

I have a soft spot for OLD sporters in the 1950's and 60's style. They make up a small portion of my cache but they are what I "collect" none the less.

MORE TO COME:evil:

An esoteric, somewhat dyslectic, group of weapons from the last 200years of history. If it catches my eye it is in there.

IMO, collecting is for stamps, art, and coins. You know, stuff that is useless (as opposed to worthless). What good are they?? Oh, that's right, you can look at them.

Heck, if I want something to look at, I've got the TV, and at least it moves.

I accumulate guns that are useful. Pistols to shoot for defense, target, or to hunt with.

Varmint rifles, medium rifles, heavy rifles, target rifles.

shotguns for clays, turkey, or deer

Colt 22 Revolvers for me mostly. I buy and shoot other stuff, but I like those little 22's.

An adequate but incomplete modest collection of mostly modern stuff.

I have yet to make my first gun purchase, but I have hopes one day of amassing a collection similar to Kentucky_Smith's WWII battle rifles. :D

A noted gun writer once said "There are .22's....and then there are 52's". Seem to have been drawn to the Winchester & Browning Model 52's....collecting Rolex watches would have been cheaper.

Dial up warning!!!

It probably started with Browning pistols:
Model 1971(or 10/71)

High Power Competition

And I've got one of all the rest of the center fire model Brownings and FN's from 1900 to 1971.

Then somehow I added a few pre-WWII pistols.
Dryse Model 1908
dreyse1908.jpg
And an Astra 400 and acouple of other bits.

And I didn't have enough .22's so...
Beretta Model 76
beretta76.jpg
And a Sig Trailside and a Walther P22, oh and a Model 70S Beretta in .22.

And I always liked rifles.
19th C. Martini types rifles in .300 Sherwood, .360 No. 5 and .380 Centerfire.

And you need some modern rifles for hunting.

And I found a good deal on a Gr.III and Gr.IV BAR, and had a few built in 275 Rigby, 7x64 and 458 Win, and doesn't everyone need an AR(?) so I got a .50 Beowulf and a 6x45 upper, and SKS's are so cheap I felt like I had to get at least one, and...

Well you understand the disease. But honestly I consider Browning pistols, pre-WWII pistols, and Martini Henry actioned rifles to be what I collect. All the other stuff I just "needed" for one reason or the other.

Definitions are for the rigid and those who need order or to categorize things. That's not me....

If I were forced to give one, it would be something like

"a disorderly accumulation of mostly obsolete military rifles, but some pistols and revolvers as well"

If I had to classify my collection, I think "Something for everyone" would fit

Glock 23
Springfield XD-9 Subcompact
Kimber Custom 2
Taurus 85
Sig 220 stainless (well, I'l have it in two weeks)

Mosin Nagant
Ruger 10/22
WASR-10 AK-47

Winchester 1300 Defender

I plan to add a sig556 to the rifles when available.

OK, the season finale of 24 is on, gotta go....

Eclectic...

However, I do have some definite themes... (plural):

1. U. S. made .32 ACP pistols made prior to WWII.
- I have to work on this some more. Currently I have a total of one.

2. 'Fighting' handguns, either miltary or police.
- This group is doing nicely; but I lack a K frame magnum.

3. 'Target' guns of most shooting disciplines.
- Coming nicely. I need a good .22 lr rifle.

4. Sporting rifles of the 20th Century.
- Some representative pieces. Needs work.

I tend to avoid stainless steel and plastic. No nylon holsters, neither!

My collection titled is "Cheap Guns".

Taurus 85SS
Keltec P11
Keltec P32

Savage 11G .243, Weaver 15x target scope
Winchester 94 .30/30
Marlin 60, Simmons 3X9 32mm 22mag scope
