I have tried in vain to define my collection style.
finally said to hell with it, now I just buy what looks neat that day

"Collection" implies so much organization & thought...my guns started out being Euro stuff, then added American guns...steel to aluminum to poly-guns. I'm an Equal Opportunity shooter. My collection is more of a mutt  :neener:

My collection: primarily defensive/combat/fun stuff.

So far, it includes:
Ruger MkII
Walther P22
S&W 686
P/O C7/45LDA
P/O Colonel
Kel-Tec PLR-16

6 Rem 870's:
2 Exp. Mag. (26" & 28")
1 Exp. Mag. AOW (12" bbl)
1 Police
1 Magnum (police trade-in)
1 20 ga Exp. Mag. Youth

1 AR-15
1 SAR-1
1 Keystone Arms Cricket (for my 9 y/o son)
1 German Commission Model of 1888

1 ETS, Inc. .22lr suppressor
1 ETS, Inc. .223 suppressor

Lets see I got a bunch of military surplus, throw in some .22 target rifles and a few others from the 50s-70s and some shotguns, a fal and you got me sorted. My true love is Lee Enfields.

I started as this...then was this...then this...then this...then this...But now I've decided I like em all pretty much and will just grab what I can get a good deal on.

This is the path I've followed too. I've gone through phases, and now my collection is as varied as the sexual orientations of san fran.

again, i don't have much of a theme to my collection, though fighting arms are what get my attention the most and i'm kinda heavy on the rifles.

edited to add: i've been thinking about collecting pairs of fighting rifles and handguns - i.e. garand and g.i. 1911, mosin-nagant and nagant revolver, smle and webley, etc.

When I first started, I wanted a Remington model 788 in every caliber since that was the first gun I bought with my own money (which explains my username). I got about halfway done when I realized I wanted more than just 788's so now I buy just about anything when I can afford it. Case in point, I just purchased a Smith and Wesson model 29 at an auction for $325 even though I already have another model 29 in the safe. Basically I want one of everything and two of most.:D

Don't know that I really have a collection yet, but my intent when looking or buying is to try to get as close to an ideal hunting battery as possible. I look mostly for older chamberings .270win, .30-06, etc, They seem more practical to me, and the ammo is easier to come by and usually cheaper. Really fascinated by the older big bores, but don't have any yet. - that ammo is certainly not cheaper.

I go for things that raise an eyebrow, which is quite good fun over here in the UK where 'handguns' have been banned:confused:

A Freedom Arms mini revolver:what:
Minirev1.gif

A Buckmark
Buckmark3.gif

A Competitor in .44 magnum
Boomstick.gif

And a Brocock, These air pistols have now been re-classified as 'Section 5' (thats the same as a flame thrower, rocket launcher, M60 etc...)

I just love finding loop-holes in our gun laws:D

My collection would be titled "every 10mm ever made" (minus the ones I don't have yet) and a whole bunch of other cool stuff that struck my eye. I do find I tend to lean towards 1911's and hand cannons.

Yes,Boom-Sticks right unfortunately,Brocock handguns and rifles have been banned, because apparently criminals have or attempted to convert them to fire .38 and .38 special bullets.I wouldn't try loading and firing them or you might find out-to your cost- the gun might blow up in your face.Even the Para semi-automatic Brocock replicas were banned, despite the fact that they worked manually, like a cheap spring-powered airsoft pistol and not a semi-auto.

The Brocock was the poor man's .38 revolver, for criminal use.

The So Soild Crew started this crappy hipe, over the conversions of that gun, when cops found it hidden in a dumpster, near a nightclub, that they were at.One is in jail because of it.

They have even said this about airsoft guns as well.(The types from Elite airsoft.)

Next the government would want to confiscate pensioners walking sticks, because like batons and coshes, they could kill,or be converted to fire a .22LR bullet.

Armed Police, put your walking stick down!!!

why?

Because you could hollow it out and kill someone, with it and you just hit that law-abiding chav.

No,all I need is to bash the little bastard for a bit longer,to make him giveback my pension book, credit cards, cheque book and car keys-which these days the average criminal spends seven months or so banged up-for offenses like this.

I'm just a handgunner (so far) and if I had to declare a theme, it would probably be compact/lightweight CCW pistols (e.g. SIG 228, 239, H&K USP 9c & 45c, CZ PCR, Walther P5C & P22, Kimber TacPro 9mm, Kahr P-9, Colt Lt Wt Cmdr(2), etc) , except for the Vaquero, GM 1911, SIG 226, and maybe the S&W M24 TRS. I guess "guns that make me happy" is the easiest way to label it overall -

Seems my collection has changed definition several times. Started out with one of every caliber, then went to auto handguns, then to centerfire rifles (where I'm at now). I guess the only constant is I always have at least one .22 pistol, two CCW guns, and I always try to put period scopes on rifles (if the rifle was made in the 50's, I try to find a 50's vintage scope, etc.). I think that makes it more interesting than just buying a Leupold or something.

Wow! The response surprised me.

Like many people who answered my original question, I have gone through many colelcting phases from whatever looks good to cowboy guns to strictly home protection. It just goes to show you there's room for all tastes and endless ideas for gun collecting.

Last weekend I went to my club's semi-annual swap meet and it again convinced me that people who shoot, collect guns and hunt are truly the good guys and always have been. So did the answers to my question. Thanks all!

I'd say a good third of my total pile is comprised of .22's.

I love them because even quality examples are often quite affordable, and I can shoot them as much as I want and still have money left over for more guns :)

But I like & own plenty of other stuff too.

My accumulation always needs another 22. There are collectors and there are shooters.

My Collection as it goes:

I enjoy collecting Comminist Block Military weapons. I have: Laminated AK 47 Century Arms, SAR1, Chinese Noranco 7.62x39, YUGO SKS, Mosin-Nagant 91/30 stamped 1896 Hex reciever Finnish capture, Mosin-Nagant 91/30 stamped 1932, Mosin-Nagant 91/30 Hex reciever Laminated stock, Mosin-Nagant M38 carbine that I love to shoot, its very accurate, got one heck of a kick, Ruger Deerfield .44 magnum carbine, Winchester 94 in 30.30, Remington 870 Express 12 ga., Stevens single shot 16 ga., H&R 20 ga. Mossy Oak camo, H&R .410 SS Snake Tamer, Remington 597 .22 cal Mossy Oak camo., Ruger 10/22 Stainless, GLOCK 21 .45 acp., Smith & Wesson 686 .357 Stainless, Ruger Super REDHAWK .44 Mag w/ Basuch & Lomb scope, Ruger NBH .45 Long Colt, Ruger NBH .357, Ruger P90, Taraus 38 spl. Stainless, Charter Arms Undercover 38 spl. nickel chrome, Walther P22 OD Green, Rossi .32 blue steel, Heritage Arms Birds Head .22/.22 magnum combo satin finish = (NOTE: the best $99.00 I ever spent on a plinker pistol), Davis .25, Davis .22. (I will continue to add from my wish list).

As you can see I do have a mixed bag of guns. I enjoy trigger time on each one, some more than others.

Just remember as you assemble you own collection: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If you want it - get it. Don't buy just because someone else tells you it is the thing to do. :scrutiny:

eclectic

My collection of firearms consists of guns that catch my eye when they are available for purchase or trade at the same time money is is in my pocket.

I am kind of with you on this Ithacaman. I especially like the Ithaca NID's,pre-WWII Winchesters, and pre-WWII Smith & Wessons. I do allow myself to enjoy the early Winchester Model 101's and the early Beretta BL or S55-57 series. I am not fond of choke tubes and don't have anything that uses choke tubes. These are the guns that were being used when I grew up and they are the ones I really enjoy. They are all sporting arms. I just don't have any interest in military weapons.

By the way, I am new to this forum and really enjoyed reading the responses to this thread.

My collection was never put together to be one certain thing. It depended on my whim at the time I had disposable income to spend. It started with revolvers, then to milsurps, then to ARs, then to shotguns, then to semi auto handguns, then bolt action rifles, then semi auto rifles and now I'm back at revolvers again. I think I'm almost to shotguns now as I'm really jonesing for a nice under over. :D

I guess my collection is defined by my ability to not choose just one direction and my lack of disposable income to get everything I could ever want.
