Delayed/Turned down to buy a handgun

Yeah, common names are a big problem. I forgot to put my social on the form yesterday. Fortunately no else in Florida has ever been arrested with the name Joseph Delno Hallowell.

I don't give a hoot about giving them the SSN, I'm dyslexic and just missed it. Oh well, it worked out fine. That little Bersa is a nice gun.

I was delayed on my last firearm purchase. Cleared up in a day, and a also a half a tank of gas dring back the next day and driving home with it.

I think NICS should reimburse me everytime that happens...

I will never forget that half tank of gas.. I hope it never happens again. It was the best half tank of gas I ever had..

RIP Half Tank!

Never been delayed but have friends who have been. If your states' CCW permit is one which the ATF recognizes as a replacement for NICS then they don't even have to call you in.

Yet another good reason to get a CCW. Makes the purchase go faster. Still have to do the form, but no phone call.

I always get a delay and have become used to it.

When they run NICS, it automtically scans your information. If nothing comes up, you are not in the system, and you get a proceed.

If your name does come up, (it might just be someone else with your name) or any of your info is merely on file with the gub'mint, it will be flagged and you will get a delay. This is when an actual person reviews the information to see why.

Most of the time, it will just be because your name or info is merely in the system, so you'll most likely get a proceed.

I've never been delayed but my buddy gets delayed absolutely everytime for at least twenty minutes. We thought it might change once he got his C&R but that didn't affect it for the better either.

in most states a DUI is a misdemenor, unless it is combined with other offenses (evading police, resisting arrest, ect.)

also, about the fingerprinting stuff.
were you just talking about fingerprinting because of a crime?
or ID fingerprinting, like every memeber of the military goes through at MEPS?

Even though this has already been said many times, I'll chime in too. In college I had a seasonal job at Dick's Sporting Goods and worked the gun counter. We frequently got delays when we called NICS, and I can't recall a single one that ended up denied, so don't sweat it!

Well, I was originally delayed, but it was OK'd in a few days. I expect to be delayed every time now because after I bought my 1911, I spent over $250 enjoying it, so I needed a 22, so I would not break the bank every range trip.

I expect to be delayed again because now I "need" a 9mm. Oh, I got the fever.

I've got a pretty common name so I'm more surprise when I don't get delayed. This year I've purchased five or six 22's, and each one has gone faster than the last one. I guess they're getting used to seeing my name. The last one didn't take ten minutes. :D

I worked with a fellow who had a name that you would not expect anybody else to have, only to start getting collection notices for some fellow in Idaho with a perfect match on the name, four day difference on the DOB, and a couple of other very scary coincidental id tags.
When he went to get legal assistance in Idaho (figuring a local legal rep would be a benefit), he found a lawyer with the SAME name, and a judge withe the SAME name. It got to be a comedy routine in the computer center, "In the case of Michael R. Newell, plaintiff, represented by counsel Michael R. Newell, versus Michael R. Newell, defendant, to be tried before Judge Michael R. Newell in ..." well, you get the idea. The funny thing is that NONE of these parties were related. Oh, yes, the name was changed to protect the guilty.

Never did find out if my co-worker ever tried to purchase a handgun.
