I've seen numerous threads about 'how fast is fast' and 'how fast is fast enough' and so forth. Well, today I dragged my girlfriend out to the range so we could find out how fast we were. Actually, she asked me to take her out there because she hadn't been out in awhile, and I suspect she had some stresses that needed relieving ;) .

Plus, I've recently acquired a new holster for concealed carry, and I wanted to see how well I'd do.

Of course, our work lacked some of the realism of an armed encounter (we warmed up, no surprise factor--although we did use a timer with a random start 'beep', and of course the target didn't shoot back :) ). So, these times are probably better than the best we could hope for in an armed encounter.

At seven yards, I was able to draw from concealment and hit a B-27 sillhouette in the 10-ring in about 1.4 seconds. My girlfriend was able to hit the B-27 silhouette in the 8-ring or better in about 1.8 seconds under the same conditions. I was pretty happy with both times.

As an aside, I don't like the B-27 target. I think the center of the scoring part of the target is too low on the torso. I much prefer the Texas DPS CHL target, which centers the target in the center of the chest.

I have included some pics so this wouldn't be a typical boring old range report. Its now a multimedia extravaganza!

I'm the bald guy. The holster is alligator made by George Wells of Wellsmade Holsters. George is great, and his holster is nice too. :) . The belt is a Kramer horse-hide 1 1/4" belt. I have a belt to match the holster, but its too nice to wear to the range! :) The pistol is a Glock 35 with meprolight night sites. Notice how much sweatshirt I clear out of the way as I draw :uhoh: The attractive woman (with the serious look on her face!) is using a SW908 9MM for her carry gun in her Uncle Mike Holster :fire: (I got her a nice holster, but she keeps bringing the cheapy one to the range). The last pic has her shooting her SW 586 3" .357 magnum. She's shooting .38 special loads from it (hence the lack of recoil). She loves to shoot that gun, but its too heavy to carry.

Its interesting that my digital camera had trouble getting 'action pics' when I was drawing and shooting. My girlfriend wanted a picture during the draw, and when she pushed the button (as the beep sounded), my shot would be downrange when the camera clicked. We finally decided she would yell 'go' as she snapped the picture, and then I would draw. That's how we got the one pic we did get. Never take a camera to a gun fight. :D

Regards to All and Happy New Year!

Always a good excercize Dan ... something I do even on my own ... no clock, no camera ... just repeat until ammo all gone! Has to be beneficial.

The camera deal ... digi cams have odd shutter functions ... many suffer delay. If I do a longer exposure and go by screen blacking out - it's already finished ... so almost opposite of delay. Whatever - often takes experiment to get right point to shoot (camera or gun!!).

Agreed too - re B27 ... wrong ''zone''.

P95-

The camera turned out to be a great idea. First, we had fun with it :) . Second, my girlfriend noticed how she leaned back in her stance (when she should be leaning forward--weight balanced between both feet). So its educational too!

And yes, oneshooter, she complained about the powder residue on her hands. :D Just some smoky .38 special full wadcutter reloads (not mine, I bought them at a gun show).

Boy, I really like these smilies. ;)

Regards to All
