Dillon Tool Head Stands

I have an extra powder measure and my bench is stacked with die boxes. Soooo, I thought I would get a Dillon tool head stand so I can leave my die settings for various calibers intact.

For those of you who use them, is there a big concern regarding rust to the dies left in the tool head vs the die boxes? The Hornady dies have nice storage boxes.

Im thinking of also keeping the shellplate and pins in the stand as well.

I have no concern as my basement reloading room is climate-controlled. The humidity never goes above 55% and is usually at 50% or below.

The tool stands can be bought from Dillon, from Brian Enos, or from Ebay.

the dillon die boxes aren't exactly air tight so they will allow moisture inside of them. Any moisture that does get inside of them will most likely stay there for a longer time than if it could just air dry. I don't think you would be at any disadvantage to use the stands unless you are able to put the boxes in something that would be air tight.

With dies in tool head I use plastic containers ( air tight ) from grocery store or dollar store. Witha thin coat of Barricade rust stop they are safe for years.

I use the stands but humidity is not a concern here in the desert.

I "lost" my tool head with .38 spl dies for my 550. I discovered it five years later hidden in the garage under a pile of junk. My garage was not heated or cooled in very humid Richmond, VA.

No rust or corrosion on any part of it, including decappin pin which is not coated or protected.

If you clean the toolhead and the parts when you remove it from the press, you should have no issues. I've got dies in about 15 toolheads and zero rust on dies from Dillon, Hornady, and Redding. It is no worse than leaving your toolhead in the press.

I believe the dillon dies are plated so they do not rust. My 4 sets have been in toolheads in my damp basement where I reload for 14 years, and I have never seen a sign of rust on the dillon dies. My Hornadys do get a little rust on them though.

I am going to agree. My dies have not been taken care of since I bought them in 1995 or so. They sat in the garage for years in their toolhead during a reloading hiatus and when I started to load again, I did nothing to them. They look brand new and function the same.

The same goes for the attached powder measure. Other than dust it off, I have done nothing to it.
