I have a Remington 700 in .223 that I haven't even fired yet. The manual says to disassemble, you remove the three screws on the bottom near the trigger guard and lift out the trigger guard assembly. On mine, they are allen type screws, not the slotted ones shown in the manual. Also, they are a real bitch to get off. I recall on my 870 shotgun, I had to use a wrench to get the ring around the mag tube off. Am I supposed to take out the allen screws, or is there another way to do it? I don't want to force it if it's not what I sjould be doing.

That's as far as the manual says to break it down to clean it. So I can clean out whatever shipping grease is in there and re-lube.

I have a 700 in .270win and mine has the 3 allen screws too. To get the action out of the stock you just remove those 3 screws and it lifts out.

Go to walmart and buy a gunsmith screwdriver set. If it's like the one I bought it will have the exact size to fit your rifle. Why do you want to take it apart already. Just remove the bolt and clean the bbl from the breach.
