I'm curious if anyone here has any success shortening LOP on their composite/synthetic shotgun stocks? That at least is my plan for my FN SLP shotgun and my Tikka T3 Lite stocks. The LOP on both of those are 13 & 13.5" respectively. I'd also like to add softer recoil pads but that's for later. Is a belt sander mandatory? Can I use a Dremel for that work? What kind of stock specific tools have you used. Any and all suggestions and information will be greatly appreciated. BTW, both Brownells and Midway USA have tools to fitting recoil pads to the shorter stock. Thanks in advance and Happy Holidays!

I use a band saw or a miter saw to cut the stocks. If the mounting points for the recoil pad are cut away, I Acra-glas the pad to the stock for rifles, and build up pads of wood and Acra-glas for shotguns stocks.

I use a belt sander and a disc sander for fitting recoil pads.

You might want to check the clearance that you have in the SLP, the SLP has a recoil tube that runs through the stock, it might not be as easy as "cutting off an inch of plastic...."

Recoil Tube

That is the limitation of what I can cut. A bolt action does not have this but I would still be limited to where the pad screws go unless I want to use Acraglass. I'd prefer a local smith to do this but they prefer wood stocks only.

Would it be simpler to replace the stock with a wooden one and hack that down to size?
