Kind of a random question, but I have a feeling the THR family has an answer for me:

Short version: can you change the color of a spyderco handle made out of the FRCP material? How?

Long version: I lost another benchmade griptilian, which prompted me to buy a spyderco endura, which is the bees knees. Now I'm looking at adding the Manix 2 to my collection, but none of the stock color options really get me excited. There are some custom scales for the G10 version that I really dig, but at $90, and the increased price for the G10 knife, it turns into a $200+ knife, and I'm not enthusiastic about spending that much money on a pocket knife, and I prefer the lighter weight and volcano grip of the FRCP handle version. I know that the FRN handles like te enduras and delicate are supposed to be pretty easy to dye with RIT, but it sounds like the FRCP material doesn't play nicely with that compound.

Has anyone here ever tried cerakoting that kind of material? Or maybe just using krylon spray paint? Or maybe accidently got some kind of paint on that handle and haven't been able to get it to come off? I'm trying to get an orange handle/black blade combo like the limited edition cutlery shop version, and any input would be nice. I did find one on eBay, but the going price was $230.

Thanks guys

Jmr40, thanks for the heads up, I was literally just telling a coworker that I might try spray painting it.

Browning, I’ve seen the RIT dye jobs on the FRN handles, but I’m not sure it would work for FRCP. I’ll explore that rabbit hole a little farther.

It works. You just have to leave it in the dye longer.

Browning, good to know. Do you have any firsthand experience with the frcp handles? I’m guessing translucent blue would be the most likely candidate for the dye job.

Yeah. Did a tan knife to green. Just took forever.

Good to know. I'm thinking I might try to turn the the translucent blue handle green as well. I asked on the spyderco board and if I get any pertinent info I'll summarize here in case anyone else is interested.
