my mini review of the ganzo fh41 (cliff notes: it's astounding for the $$)

I've pried with a knife once. I knew it was abuse, but it was a strong fixed blade, and I really wanted those 120 mm rounds to shoot at the enemy.

I have cut military grade copper cables off equipment before selling it to local Nationals in Afghanistan, but I was clear that it was abuse, it was an extremely strong lock, on a knife made by a quality US company.

Right. I carry knives that I believe to be very durable in case of contingencies, not because I actually plan to abuse them. But things happen in life--when you go out into the real world with a tool in your pocket and life throws you a curveball, you make do with what you have. At that point, it's really nice to have some confidence that if you have to use the tool in your pocket to do something it wasn't really intended to do, that it is very unlikely to close on your fingers and maim you even if you abuse it badly and to know that the blade is unlikely to snap off without helping you solve the problem life served up.

I've never had a lock fail, but I intend to do whatever I can to be able to make the same claim on my deathbed.

I'm not saying that anyone carrying a liner lock is doomed to lose a finger or that liner locks are inherently unsafe or even that people who choose to carry them are uninformed or are making poor choices, I'm just saying that in my estimation there are stronger, more reliable options out there and I choose them instead.
