Do you ever deliberately avoid THR topics?

I don't know what a mall ninja is and I don't care, looks to be someone i will probably never meet or totally ignore and never meet.
What is a zombie? I have never figured that one out and to tell you the truth I don't care to.
Caliber wars? i don't like them but IMHO most of those calibers could probably be better understood as a large percentage are underrated.
Someone asking what he should get should search the threads before posting.
On the flip side THR is fantastic for the knowledge.

Not that I hate them, but I avoid 1911 and other "older" gun threads. I just don't care for milsurp rifles, Garands, 1911s, SKSs or any of that stuff. I'll take modern poly pistols and ARs any day. So I stick to threads that involve those things. I also avoid state specific threads unless it's about Michigan(my state) or Indiana(soon to be my state hopefully).

... just remembered that as soon as any poster uses the phrase (title or any thread response), "jack-booted thug(s)," I'm outta the thread ...

1) Boycott X! You want me to not use a product, service or company because someone in it said something I might disagree with? I'll need more than that bucko.

2) Gossip threads. I don't care about what your mom, sister, creepy uncle or anyone else thinks of your gun collection. I will read "conversion to our side" threads though. So work on that part.

3) TV/movie gun mistakes. That is a dog bites man story, instead post a thread where they get it right.

4) This gun shop sux!!!

5) Any SHTF for the same reasons outlined above by others.

6) What gun for X beast. Run a search, it's been covered.

7) Any thread that is asking for more info then I want to give. How many guns? Where do you live? Where do you work? Etc.

Ironically I will read caliber war threads. Like a bug to a windshield I just cannot avoid them.

tourist has done us a favor with this post. we are well int the mid eighties and nary a harsh word but lots of good venting, and some pretty funny stuff- good job guys

tourist- pan head, knuckle head, shovel head, right back at ya, and fat boy is a bike not a nickname for an obese person

I still read, but I keep my mouth shut. My experience is no match to my academic knowledge, and since many cannot even agree on documented facts, like the Miami Firefight, then there really is no point of mentioning those facts when people with agendas pop up and begin character assassination.

I generally avoid, political, religion, and what if? threads.

I steer well clear of tactics threads because, My tactics work for me but they may get you KILLED, and I want no part of that.

I sometimes will dive right in a request for information (only if I have $0.02 that is worth throwing in, In other words, If you ask about a firearm, and I happen to have experience with one, I will chime in.

I do have to say though, When the question is (and there have been a few within the last month or so) "I am thinking about-insert any type of small pocket gun you wish-" and the answers start heading towards "forget that, buy a longslide 50cal eargeshplittinloudenboomer, They are more likely to put the bg down in 1 shot. I bail, keep in mind that we are NOT all buying guns to shoot bad guys.

I steer clear of a lot of opinion threads in the first section of the site, because the stuff I read in them will get you killed/get you sued/get your *ss kicked in the real world. I find I post less and less and read more, gleaning useful information and separating the chaff out with resorting to arguing and namecalling.

master of the obvious

here, but now that I've been "around" this forum a while, i know which threads to read and which to avoid..and you've all done a great job mentioning them. But..when i was new here and much newer to the world o' firearms, i read damn near everything. How was i to know what was useful if i didn't read it and evaluate its import? How else could i learn that a 1911 is far superior to a Glock? :neener:

Time on the boards helps sharpen (like that tourist?) one's discriminatory senses...

Am now.

Hey there:
Wasn't gonna but here I am.
Ya , I shoot BP. I started out mostly on the BP part. It started to get off track. So I ventured to some others.
Seems to be sooooooo many self made experts out there. I kind of , well, I guess when you can't seem to get a word in edge wise ya kind of loose interest. Many of these post end up 2 or 3 guys going at it and totally ignoring all others anyway.

Glock nuts, etc. Some believe theirs is the only way.

Cheap, many lean toward the cheapest crap on the market. Cheap ammo, cheap guns, Cheap this and cheap that.

Some in the SHTF area, are kind of out there and most of those threads get locked or shut down anyway.
Some are very nit picky.
And many seem to be self made Lawyers.
I have almost lost interest completely.
Newbees need information. That is usually not what they get.
Some of the different practices I have read about on this forum are kind of out there too. Making your own BP. And then calling it safe. NOT.....
Hot Rod rifle loads ? Some one will almost always condone it.
New ideas are a good thing. That is how we got guns in the first place. But some of the stuff I have seen is just too far out there.

But I guess to each his own...

OK I give up. I have deciphered The End Of The World.. but what is A W K I?

Also I am picky about the threads I read, but not so much about the ones I post to. :D I can be a Smart Aleck, but I will read quite a few post without posting because I find them interesting and often humorous.

I usually just read the threads that interest me. If I don't want to know about the psycho who shot up the mall or the machine gun toting zombies I don't click on the thread. Considering post count an indicator of a persons level of wisdom is like thinking the guy who talks the most has the most valuable message. My experience tells me that just ain't so. BTW I'm not a biker though I have known many & I'm a long way past 15. Actually I'm just a 43 year old construction worker that got more interested in handguns the last couple of years.

There's a few that I tend to veer away from.

They include:

THR topics I complety ignore...

Any calliber war

Which is better X or Y

Any video/computer/PlayStation game thread.

Any paintball/airsoft thread

Any "What caliber for [insert odd-ball item or creature]?

I am in the minority on this thread in that I typically DO post on SHTF threads. I really don't worry about what anyone makes of that. After my experiences with Katrina and learning all that I SHOULD have known before, I've done my best to try to let others learn from my experiences and mistakes. I try to be a moderating force by showing actual issues rather than fantasy ones. If I help someone, I am happy. If not... oh well... no harm done.

I never thought about "SHTF-ish" issues until we lived one. So, I try to make something useful out of that.

However, since they are really not kosher on THR, I do make an effort to steer them toward a more appropriate forum (hence, my signature links.)

I only read mental health related threads if I'm in a good mood.

I only read "what gun for da lil' lady" threads when I'm in a bad mood, 'cause chances are I will be soon anyway.

I don't bother with AR threads.

And never with "I did X, what would you do?" It gets really old reading about how no matter what some poor sap did, a bunch of armchair ninjas know what he should've done.

Actually, lately I don't bother with too many threads at all. Hanging out too much on APS.

In all seriousness, I ignore topics that obviously concern makes/models that I don't know.

Nothing drives me crazier than a perfectly straightforward question about a particular model with answers based on experiences with a completely different make/model with a completely different operating system or safety.

I'd rather listen to a dozen conspiracy rants than sift through a lot of well-meaning misdirection.

Don't get me wrong, I know I'm guilty of this.

Pity me, no better yet shoot me because over the last couple of hour I've read all 100 posts. Talk about redundant, that's not to say I don't agree with most of you.
Tourist, brother tune out what you don't want and move on. I'm going to bed. somebody should do the same to this thread. Good night all TKM And now it's at 101
