Do you ever rub BLO into wood, then later add Ren. Wax due to summer sweat etc?

I've never used BLO (but I have a jar of it), and only once put Ren. Wax. on a rifle- my newish S.A. M1A's walnut.

A friend has used --just-- Ren Wax on his gun furniture, but doesn't seem to use such a 2-step process to preserve (internally) and also protect the wood.

This is my only question--- because anything more involved doesn't interest me, to be quite frank.:)

I have never used any wax on any of my wooden gunstocks. I use Ballistol cleaner for everything firearm related. Cleans and lubricates the metal parts and I also use a shaving brush to put some on the wood. I also use it for leather holsters and knife sheaths, and leather slings. Doesn't smell the best but it works good.

Steve51: A friend who grew up in Essen Germany rubs light Ballistol on his wood.

So far Ballistol is used only on (and inside) all of my --metal-- gun components.

How much does it/can it darken the colors of wood?

I never liked BLO or Tung oil finishes. Both finishes lack durability, don't seal well and are tough to reverse. I always go with uv resistant bar top polyurethane varnish. Takes more time and effort but the results are worth it. Polyurethane varnish seals wood and is durable.

BLO and mineral spirits 50/50 mix. Coat it good and let it sit. Wipe off the excess after a bit and call it good. Perfect mil spec finish in my opinion...

Was a time when my go-to was Speedwax, a mixture of BLO and beeswax. It's not in production any more.

There are arguments that Danish Oil is "as good as" BLO--those are agruments, not conclusions (but Danish Oil is less 'stinky' than BLO).

Now, all that being said, I like the simplicity of melting beeswax in small quantities and rubbing that in.

Hard to argue with all-natural products.
