Do you have a box-full of holsters??

I have a big box of holsters. I looked high and low before picking the 'right' one for IDPA, in my case a Galco G-slide.

I like the yaqui/slide type holsters but I have many mfg's and types.

I have a nylon holster that is pretty 'shapeless' from field carrying a .22 (or .45 or whatever would fit in it). But it's far from 'worn out'.. the stitching is still good and the velcro is intact. But again this was a VERY inexpensive AMS holster I used for a variety of pistols for years.

I don't own any plastic ones, but one good thing about the 'plastic revolution' is you can get a good fitting holster for a lot less than leather.

But I have specialized holsters for my revolvers, military repros, a few that 'came with' the pistol, and a couple custom rigs.

One thing discoverd by playing around with holsters: just about any 1911 holster will fit a BHP, the GI flap type holster will handle a BHP OR a Luger, if you happen to be short a holster 'made for one'.

I don't know how big a box I would need, but I have a bunch, all leather. Most are for what could be called general use, not for concealment, and I do have some for guns I don't own (yet).

Even happened to have ordered a new one today before seeing this thread. Love 'em, but I'm not a collector. For other fans, it's been a nasty day here, and I've been pulling out old Gun Digests, some of which have great holster articles by Bob Arganbright - of course these were before the downhill slide of GD, post-Ken Warner.

I have one bin and a couple I keep in my safe. A few months ago I sold off all the holsters I wasnt getting use out of anymore.

Just wondering, am I the only one here who has actually worn out a holster ?
I have, all good brand name leather holsters too. I sweat like a pig and they never usually lasted the summer. I switched to kydex and have never been disappointed. Leather is nice for winter and BBQ's though. :)

This was my last Commander/Blade Tech combo. They were worn daily for 10+ years and the holster still works like it was new. In ten years, I broke a small piece of the sweat shield off, and replaced a couple of straps. The holster on the left is a new one I bought as a back up and never used.

This was my last Galco Royal Guard after about a month of use. The duct tape was there to try and slow down the sweat soaking through. Didnt work to well. If I remember right, I got about $45 for it on EBay when I sold it, so it wasnt a total loss. :)

Not any more.

Thanks EBAY
Me too. I sold a BIG box of old holsters on EBay and made out quite well. I've also bought a few off there and made out well too. Its a great place to look if you dont want to pay full boat on something you may not like. I've resold a couple that I bought. If you have a box of holsters and want some quick cash, EBay is your place.

These days I've pretty much settled on Blade Tech and Milt Sparks VMII's for belt holsters. Since switching to SIG's, I've found that one holster will work well for a couple of different guns, which is a big plus. This is also true for 1911's. If you buy a Government or Commander length holster, everything will pretty much fit them.

Holsters? I got holsters!!!

You guy's think having a box full is bad, I make my own leather holsters and I'm still in that search for perfection. I've got the 3" sp-101 X-draw down pat. Same for the G-26 and G-19L. Just about have a perfect 1911 done. Still working on the 5" 686 X-draw. Good concealmant from all of them. Lots of "close but no cigar" holsters. Lots of wasted leather. Probably 200 lbs worth of finished leather.

Maybe one day I'll post pictures and give them away to whoever wants them.

( P.S. I only make holsters for myself and friends so please don't ask. I'm not in the business. )

I just noticed I have 19 posts in 15 months. My wife says I never say much. Maybe she's right.....

I wish :p

I bought a Don Hume IWB for my Makarov, and love it. I also have an Uncle Mike's IWB (the cheap-o neoprene one) that I use for both my GP-100 and 1911.

The latter has a simple shape that seems to work with pretty much everything I have.

My "hell box" hasn't been filling up as quickly now that I started making my own 3 years ago. I can try a lot of variation in cardboard before I ever commit to leather. Plus I get things just the way I want it. It's kinda like being Burger King.

Might I make a suggestion?

Why don't we all put up a list on line here and list all of the holsters we would like to trade or give away, maybe even sell. I could trade a Galco Glock jackass rig for example if someone had an X.... fill in the blank. It would be cool to do some horse trading and see whats out there.

We have an understanding, my wife and I... She buys handbags and I buy handgun holsters. I have several types for each gun I own, so yes, i have a bunch. IWB, SOB, Shoulder, Strong side, cross draw, ankle...well, you get the idea.

mk

Yes. One holster I like how it is.

I've combined two other holsters into an imperfect but improved frankenholster. Someday I'll find a tailor who will make a custom one that suits my uses.

I have three (3) holsters. One is an Uncle Mike's universal in-waist-band neoprene sort of thing that fits all kinds of junk and I use sometimes. One is another Uncle Mike's universal belt holster that is really rather poor for belt mount but fits nicely in the gap between my center console and passenger seat and is my car holster. The third is a DeStantis leather job that's made to fit my PX4, and that's what I use it for.

That's it. No plans to buy any more unless I buy a radically different handgun at some point in the future.

Yep I have a load of left handed holsters. Fit everything from a kel tec P11 to a Taurus PT145 to a Witness 45. To a frigin scoped big bore revolver shoulder holster to a Glock 23 Tan leather Desantis Shoulder rig. Problerm is I either dont own those guns anymore or just dont like those holsters. Two big boxes in the basement.

I would have a bunch of extras.. that is I would if I didn't sell the ones I didn't like enough to replace whatever I'm carrying in.

Exactly.

Funny that you should ask. After purchasing all these holsters...most cuz I liked the look of the fancy leather...or, somebody just loved theirs, etc. Well, I am tired of buying High Noon, Galco, Bianchi, K&D...all very expensive holsters and finding that they just don't quite fit right...just too darn tight...weapon doesn't draw quickly, etc. After buying the fairly inexpensive Mika pocket holster for my 642 and my P3AT...I've finally found the perfect drawing holster. I am now going to purchase an IWB Mika for my .45 ACP. I will only carry Mika holsters now. Damn...takes so long to get wise...and at such great expense.;)

I'll ask - nothing for a Smith Model 10-8 4inch, nobody wants, still holding together? Vertical shoulder rig would be nice. I have a nylon belt slide tailored for a CZ-100, and an Orca Nylon IWB for medium autos.

It seems to me that it's a lot harder to find a good holster than it is to find a good firearm. I made numerous mistakes in holster selection before finding appropriate options.

I have boxes of holsters for everything from 1911's to HK P7s, and don't use any of them. Holsters are a great waste of money. My advice is to check E-Bay for a good deal.

They sure accumulate fast. I've only been buying holsters for about 3 years now. 5 pistols total, and I've got VMII's, High Noon IWB's, Smartcarry, DeSantis nemesis, Uncle Mikes, and a bunch of no-name nylon and other holsters/cases/etc. I like having options though, and I use most of them now and then, some not so much.
