I've been trying to find a rather special collectable limited series pistol for about three months. My Wife actually said she liked something she saw at a gun show. Well, that's the first or second time in some 30 years of gun shows. I scoured so many inventories and called so many GS I lost count. Then I see one on Gun Broker. HHmmm... Bidding wars. Oh Boy! I see guns are selling at 100% or better over list. Great. Then what? In a month there's 100 for list price? "Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead!" I'll try some $600 over list. Didn't work. Then, when ready to dump the life savings into the bid, up pops a "new", the other one is listed as Pristine - not sure what that means...? - with a buy now. I pounce! Well that was a few days ago and now? Geeese, I hope the guys just busy but I'd sure like to hear from him. Just hope to come back with a happy ending to this story.

Oh yeah, not finding the one I was looking for, I buy a "look alike". It's nice and when I tell her how hard I worked trying to locate the actual model she'll understand....? It comes right away. Then the above story ensues. This are both "pretty" guns and not what I'd like to brag about amongst the guys. I think I'm going to get the look of, "what's wrong with you!" when she gets the first gun.... unless the other one never gets here!?!?

My Christmas is working out good so far. No gun stories but my wife works at home so she wanted the room she works in redone. So the room went from this.
dining room beginning.jpg to this in three days, 20231207_102615.jpg . So I'm pretty high on her list right now.

I like to cook in my smokers or over a fire or in cast iron so she bought me, the entire Wildlife Series of Lodge cast iron skillets, (and told me to buy) a new Lee APP deluxe press, a recoil management system and trigger spring system for my Walther PDP, and yesterday while out running around, 8lb of Win 244 to play with, I had already bought 4k of my favorite 9mm bullets. and it isn't even Christmas yet. And she had a contractor come in and re-side my shed for me also, because I pulled a bicep in my right arm. (Don't do that, that really hurts) (Thankfully I was done with her room)

I don't want to rock the boat, so I may call it good enough. I really didn't need anything so that what makes it so fun getting this stuff. I did set up the APP deluxe but haven't got to prime with it yet. I bought the quick change mount to and really llike it.
I should get to play with it sometime today.

Anyways, that's my Christmas story.

Years ago, my wife said she wanted a handgun. I found her a very nice S&W 36, very light use in the cardboard S&W box. She shot it a couple of times, and if I have a safe queen, that's it. A couple of years later, I got her a nice necklace. As a joke I stuck it in the blue S&W box with a lead ingot to make it seem real. She was fooled, really thought I'd gotten her (me) another handgun. The necklace didn't resolve it, she was still angry. Not something I will do again, I really hadn't considered the joke not being funny to her, but worth knowing.

My wife shot a S&W EZ .380 a couple of months ago, really liked it, so when Academy put it on sale for $380, I went and bought her one for X-Mas.

Her birthday is the day before X-Mas, got her something different for that. "Adding" the two together and getting one thing is verboten. ;)

Wives are funny that way. Things have changed now but opening day of deer season here used to fall on or near my wife's birthday. And the first time opening day actually did fall on my wife's birthday, stupid me just assumed that getting to go deer hunting on your birthday was a "good enough" birthday gift for anyone. I learned differently. o_O

I have one story that I've told every time this Christmas topic comes up. It involves an ALLOY FN-P35 Hi Power, intrigue, subterfuge, conspiracy, and my wife.

My dad is a shotgun man (in fact....that was his handle on the cb!). He bought my mother a beautiful Browning Auto-5 20ga skeet with unique blonde wood. My mom can shoot if there's a 1. Snake 2. Rat 3.skunk........and that's about it.

About two weeks later a furniture store delivery truck rolled in carrying a brand new upholstered swivel rocker/recliner.
"Look what I bought you. Lyle!"

This is our 21’st Christmas together as a couple.

I have never received anything gun related as a Christmas gift.

But, I do not get grief when I buy gun stuff, so its all ok.

Stay safe.

I think if you took a poll you would find that most things that husbands think would be funny jokes are not regarded as such by the wives. 30 years into my marriage and I still haven't figured out why she ever said 'Yes'

I know she gets mad when the radio starts playing Meatloaf's 'Paradise by the Dashboard lights' and I crank up the volume, but I always do. Same as with Queen's 'Fat Bottomed Girls' - although I have stopped commenting about Freddie being better off if he'd stuck to the fat bottomed girls... (But the song was written by Brian May anyway)

Wife gets peeved when people ask me what I've been up to lately and I reply "Praying for the End of Time"

Thanks @Iggy
That's a wonderful story and very well told.
Merry Christmas to you and yours.

My gift to you is to share the 'ol cowboy chuckwagon cook that I watch on YouTube. He is an ex elk guide too.
If you like cowboy grub and open fire cooking, and lots of kiwboy talk....here's your guy.

Nice craftsmanship! What is your favorite 9mm bullet? Nice going on the cast iron! I'm the cook here and also the self imposed contractor. We have been working on our retirement home for the past four years. The outdoor kitchen is the last. Here's the celling I put in her office. This made her happy. Don't know if it made her 4K bullet happy?

Thank you.
My favorite 9mm bullet is Xtremes truncated cone 124 gr., I need to get some more RMR Nukes to.

That's quite a ceiling, ought to be worth 2 k of bullets anyways. Looks really good.

We have been working on getting our home where we want it before we retire. So far so good. I want to get my reloading supplies stocked up to before I retire.

This Christmas is very special. Last Christmas my new wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. Last month she completed the last of the radiation treatments, and prognosis is excellent. So, no matter what gifts are given or received, I have the best one - her.
We also don't "do" Christmas much, so no decorations, tree, etc., but I will take her out for her birthday dinner, because she is another one born right near Christmas, so 50 years of, "This one is for Christmas AND your birthday!" garbage...that don't fly with me.
