Only my immediate family. Same with my vehicles.

I am mostly agree with Polonius with respect to lending.

No for 2 reasons. First, I've had too many tools and a compound bow that I borrowed to people go missing. I don't want to take that risk with a gun. Second, I have 2 sons I'm responsible for. They're my priority. If I did borrow a gun to someone and something went wrong, I could face jail time. I have a responsibility to my sons to be around.

It depends, immediate family like my kids, grand kids or siblings then yes including hand guns. Friends I know well and have known for decades I will loan a hunting rifle to but they assume full responsibility for the rifle including you break it, you replace it. My handguns are very, very limited on who I would loan one to.

I concur with the majority who would loan to a family member or let someone I'm with use one of my guns. I wouldn't loan a gun for an extended period of time unless it's one of 3 or 4 guys I've trained with.

I've loaned firearms to family and close friends on several occasions. I would not consider loaning one to someone I don't know very, very well.

I have loaned out a rifle for a hunting trip to someone I knew very well long ago.

Now days the people I would loan a gun number about three. The thing is, none of them would need to borrow my guns as they all have plenty of their own.

If I didn't trust them they'd be acquaintances, not friends. I've loaned out my .22Mag to a friend for varmint control when his .22lr was not quite up to the range involved and his other guns were "too much".

The thing is, none of them would need to borrow my guns as they all have plenty of their own.

This is pretty much my reality.

I don't lend out tools or firearms. At the range if someone wants to shoot one of mine I'll let them while I'm in arms reach of it.

I do not. One of my friends let a classmate borrow a .22 pistol when we were in high school. He used it to commit suicide.
I loaned a brother in law a rifle, last I ever saw of it, my sister divorced him.

That being said, I always carry a spare when hunting. Several people have used my spare shotgun, and a couple have used my spare rifle, on the same hunts I was on. Saved their trips. I would loan to my brother, only person I would trust to get it back.

I have loaned a lot of things to people but not guns. I have let friends and family shoot my guns in my presence at the range and in the field shooting clay pigeons but I do not loan them out.

hell no.

who would do that?

shoot them at the range with them? hunting with them? yes.

let the firearm out of my sight, even with a family member or my best friend?

never in a billion years.

YOU are responsible for the serial number, and no one else, ever.

I would never ask to borrow a gun, nor would I loan one to anyone.
My sister's husband Mike passed a few years ago. In accordance with Mikes wishes Cindy distributed many of his guns throughout the family but retained a several. Among those guns was an Anschutz 22 Target Rifle. Cindy made it clear if any of us in the family wanted to use any of the guns she had we need only ask. I have the Anschutz on sort of permanent loan and had no reservation at all in asking my sister to borrow it. I also would not hesitate to ask my brother if I wanted to borrow any of his guns and my brother knows he need only ask to borrow any of my guns. For example a specific hunting rifle should he going on a hunt where his own rifles may not be as well suited as something I have.

All in all I have no issue with gun loans or exchanges within immediate family. Also, while I love my family, if you break it you fix it or you bought it applies. :)

Hand tools? Sure, to just about anyone. Guns? Can only think of 4 people. Vehicles? No!! Been sued twice for that. I'll give you a ride just about anywhere and anytime, but never a vehicle.

There are probably times when your culpable when loaning a firearm, too. Don't know. Something to consider.

I have loaned my Kimber .45 and a bag of ammo out to a couple guys at work just so they could try a 1911 type pistol but I have worked with each them for well over 20 years and one of them I've known since childhood.

I have had guys offer me various pistols to take home for a play date just because they came up in conversation.

I took a defensive pistol class with an Ultracompact .45 but fortunately a buddy that knew better made me take his double stack Sig .40 along just in case I needed it... and I did.

Choose your friends wisely and you will seldom be disappointed, make sure they are never disappointed in you.

My "adopted son", he just lived around the corner, and I have traded guns back in forth for many years.

When he was in Correction Officer training I loaded .38's every week so when he was home on weekends we could practice with my Model 28 Highway Patrolmen. He placed Tops of his class with the revolver. You say why .38--that was over 35 years ago.

Now we trade rifles back and forth to see who can work up the best loads.
My two sone aren't really into shooting.

Some of you must live some sad lonely lives, no one you can trust!
I have loaned and borrowed guns and tools for over forty years have never regretted it once.
Last September I loaned a friend my scoped Browning X-bolt for a deer hunt, it came back looking and shooting just like it did before he took it.

Tools. I usually regret loaning tools or equipment. I have a lower standard on loaning a wrench compared to a firearm, but I usually have to go get it back. Or, I'll never see it again.

Yes. I bought a Chipmunk 22 for my kids when they were little, they shot it til they outgrew it, then I loaned it to a friends son for a couple of years, he out grew it so it went to another friends son, it went everywhere with him for a couple of years (farmers kid put it to real good use, shooting snakes, fox, feral dogs, and other stuff that cause problems on a farm that has cows, chickens, etc. when he out grew it I loaned it to a friend who had 2 sons, they kept it for 5 years, now it's back waiting for the next kid who needs it. I have a Marlin 1894 in 44 mag that a friend of mine's sons all killed their first deer with, and my Ruger #1 270 has been loaned to my sons to kill their first deer, as well as several of my friends and their kids. My dads 1100 shotgun has been on many a kids first dove shoot. To me guns are tools, to be used not to be hidden away gathering dust.
