I have been shooting at the NRA range in Fairfax Va lately. It's cheaper than the commercial ranges around NoVa if your an NRA member, and it's pretty well run.

Shooting clubs in the metro D.C. area are prohibitively expensive as far as I can see. The Izack (sp?) Walton League is about the only reasonable one and you need to be sponsored there.

Range. Very nice Rod and Gun club about 20 minutes from home. Pin range, practical pistol range, rifle range (50, 100, 200 yd), skeet/trap (2 ranges), bow, and plenty of competitions to keep you interested and offering the opportunity to play with ALL your toys.:D
I was fortunate to find the place, as before that I had to do the indoor range with fixed hours and high prices. This place is open 365 days and you can fire from 0900 until sunset (all members get a key to the gates and club house).
Great group of guys and gals, always polite and friendly. And the best part is shooting outside.........thought the autos don't appreciate it when it drops below zero

I'll go out to the desert, and the range sometimes. The nearest range is an indoor place with outrageous ammo costs and $12/hour for a lane, though, bleh, so I might as well drive far away.

I pay the dues and go to a range ten minutes from where I live.
I've got ten acres to shoot on about 45 minutes away.

Me and a buddy replaced all the ballast in the light fixtures at the range and got six years membership for that. I'm happy to not drive the extra distance.

When I want to shoot rifles, I head to "my house".

I have started shooting at a very nice range just west of Birmingham. It's called the "FOP Range"; it is a fromer olice range that went private. It has full-time ROs, along with 8 private ranges and one public range where non-members can shoot. There is also a nice little shop and an air-conditioned rest area, not to mention a restroom with flush toilet.

Re:

Living in this part of Illinois I have no choice but to shoot at the indoor ranges. There are 3 that are within 20 miles or so of me. But I long for an outdoor range nearby, would love to do what I love to d out in the fresh air and change things up a bit. Gets a bit boring shootin paper targets all the time....Y'all that can shoot outside and or on your own property are very lucky....mack

Niether. I shoot in my backyard. I can shoot out to about 800 yards if I want to. ( Someday I'll get that Barrett.... )

You suck! :neener:

I need to get a house with land like that. :D

I go to three ranges
1)my farm 650A
2)my other farm 700A
3)my 330A gravil pit

I bet you have never done 300 yard shooting out your window at wild hogs in the hay field in the morning.

If you live in So. Cal. and you shoot at indoor ranges, you're cheating yourself.

There are 2 great outdoor ranges close by. Prado in Chino and Raahauges in Norco.

Prado is open shooting and Raahauges holds pistol matches every weekend.

brad g.

p.s. please don't whine about how far they are from your home. If you want to shoot them, drive.

I belong to a semi formal range.

For $70 a year, you get archery lanes to 40-50 yards or so, some 3D archery matches (match fee about $5-10 or so)

trap and skeet (dunno the fee, probably $5 a round or something)

Indoor pistol to 50 ft on the overhead crank targets or 75 yards if you walk down the range. Any caliber handgun or 22lr rifle is allowed. This is a heated building where you shoot out the window at the targets.

300yrd rifle range

200 yard black powder/shotgun slug range

22 cal rifle range 100 yards?

2-3 pistol ranges to 50 yards

bird shot practice range

air rifle range

trout pond stocked once a year.

If you join the NRA, they knock $20 off of the membership.

Too bad I moved about hour away now.

I dont pay any amount, because the range that i go is owned by somebody in the family. So i can shot at almost any yardage, have gotten out to 300 yrds so far with a 30-06, used a police size target and put 4 shots in the head of the bad guy. Damn good, if you ask me.

I am lucky enough to be able to choose between shooting for free or shooting for a reasonable (cheap) fee at a range.
I live in Colorado.

It is legal to shoot firearms in a National Forrest here and Colorado has a lot of them. Several have actual designated shooting ranges free to the public. However you do not have to stay in the designated shooting areas. I am able to combine free camping with free shooting.

I also have the ability to shoot for free at a wilderness cabin. Have to say thats where I enjoy it most. No electricity, running water, telephones, or people. 10 miles off the highway down a dirt road.

I also like to shoot trap at a range with voice actuated trap boxes.
Membership $40 a year

I shoot revolvers, autos, rifles, and shotgun
