Do you still have your first gun?

Unfortunately, no. I wish I did so I could give it to my son. But back when i sold it, I was thinking about financing another purchase, not about having kids.

Yes, i still have it- a Savage model 24D 22/20 gauge. My Christmas present in 7th grade. My Mother took me to the sporting goods store and let me pick it out. I can't say it was a particularly great gun compared to my Dad's model 67 Winchester or his model 37 Winchester 12 gauge, but it reminds me of happier times when they were both still alive and I had the whole world still ahead of me. Now I have both of those guns and they remind me of better times as well.

Since so many folks are listing their BB or Pellet guns, I feel compelled to change my response to, "No" ...

I cannot remember if I received my Mattel Fanner 50 (with "Shootin' Shells") first or the rubber band gun that my Dad made for me ...

... but both are long gone ... so, no , I do not still have my first "gun". ;)

In a real firearm, yes. A Remington 550 .22 semi-auto that my great uncle taught me to shoot and hunt with at age 12 (I think). He bequeathed it to me when he passed away. It's not going anywhere.

Granddad gave me a 1950's bolt action Savage .22.I passed it on to my grandsons last year.I took many groundhogs with it.They're using it at the range.

Yup! I still have my first pistol - a 9mm Luger - byf 41 - that I purchased from a veteran living off base near Fort Lee, Virginia around 1965. He said he'd body swiped it from a dead Nazi in northern France. I paid $60 for it and my Mother, God rest her soul, had to go with me to buy it because I was so young at the time. My father had previously passed away. It's the only firearm that has any sentimental value to me and will be one of the last I will ever relinquish.

Yep. Got 'em both. First one was semi home-made, the other was factory built and store bought. Don't have my Red Ryder though. Wore it out and threw it away.

My first gun didn't work... It's a mid-to late 1930's Winchester Model 67 22 LR bolt action single shot that my dad bought used about 1938 or so. There's a leaf spring in the action that eventually failed and a gunsmith told him it would cost more to fix than the gun was worth. So it sat in the closet from about the early 50's until I latched on to it in the mid 60's. Then it sat around in my gun rack until about 1981 when a gunsmith told me it was easily fixable. So it finally got fixed and it's a great shooter and now resides in the safe with the first WORKING gun that I ever got at age 17; An Iver Johnson Champion 16 ga. break open single shot 16 ga. shotgun. That one was purchased new by my dad about 1940 at the local Western Auto store. Then in the 50's one of my older cousins had it when he first got into that stuff and by the time I was 17 it wasn't getting used anymore so it was then my turn for it and none of my other cousins were interested in it so it's still with me. Had it re-blued and the receiver re- casehardened in 1978 and today it probably looks better than it did in 1940.

Yes I do. I will never sell it or get rid of it. It works even better than the best champs I've ever shot or owned.

My brother lost my 22410 while he was smashed in the woods.
I was not very nice--I said I was going to tell dad. He told me I could have his new Marlin 39A if I kept my mouth quiet----I was very very happy to take him up on his offer.
Years later I replaced the 22410 with a model 24V.

first gun

Still have my Ruger K97 De Cock only in 45 acp it was the first gun I bought with the help of my father -in law who got me into shooting.

My first was likely the same gun Grassman has. My dad gave it to me at about 11-12 years old. I just got it back from him last year. My first purchase is my Ruger 22/45 slab sided. I will always have it.

Yes, a single shot .410 shotgun made by, I think, EIG out of Spain. I got it on my 10th birthday which was about 47 years ago & it still looks great & works like a charm.

Yep, a Savage Model 24 22LR/20 gauge. My parents gave it to me for Christmas in 1969.
I think back then they paid $40 for it new.

My first 7 guns were inherited guns and I have 6 of them. One of them was stolen while I was in college.

A couple of them are fairly valuable (Colt pistol and a SxS) but the others are purely sentimental.

Yep - my grandfather left me his Remington .22 bolt action when he passed away when I was 12 in 1969. I think it is from the late 40s or early 50s. I still have it - I still shoot it better than any other gun I have. It is going to my son (or my first grandson who is on the way now).

Still have the Marlin Glenfield 60 I saved for and bought in the early 70's. Still get it out and shoot some but it has some FTE's now.
