I read an article recently by Mas Ayoob describing how a weapon mounted light saved a LEO in a hand to hand struggle with an assailant, as it allowed the gun to stay in battery for the contact shot.

Does anyone know of a device that would mount on a rail (other than a light, this is for CC) that would do the same? A simple "blank" that extends to the length of the muzzle attached to a clamp for the rail would be all that is required. It needs to be small / thin enough to allow use of holsters designed for the weapon.

Downside to them, is going to be finding a realistic holster that will work with them.

True!
Guns and gadgets are fine but holsters and holders for all this whiz bang Batman stuff can be a pain.
Finding holsters or kit if your left handed is even harder.

Train to put your shooting hand thumb on the back of the slide for contact shots. Of course you will have to tap/rack after the first shot.

Or just withdraw the gun a 1/2 inch so it's not a contact shot.

You're more likely to get struck by lighting while being attacked by a shark and stung by a next of killer bees while claiming your winning lottery ticket than to have your firearm not work due to being out-of-battery from a contact shot...

But whateve.

In '04 I was at SHOT Show in Orlando, FL and I remember looking at something just like this, but it was specifically in the context of a 1911. Some guy from NSW Crane came up and started talking about the benefits to someone who he was courting around the show. Along with being a standoff device, it was also a bit "peruasive." I was taken aback by the validity of this concept, so I looked closely at his badge, and sho-nuff...

For the life of me, I can't remember whose booth it was, but it looked a lot like this...

boricua9mm.

And when it's not attached to your gun, you now have a handy little meat tenderizer to use in the kitchen!

You could just have an extended guide rod made. Then you could still use any open end holster that is already available.

I would be curious to find out if the meat tenderizer would have any effect on accuracy.

That's far too easy and logical

It's better to spend time and money looking for some gadget to hang on your gun that will require more time and money to find a suitable holster, while not really improving anything at all ;)

Or, get a revolver and ya don't have to worry about that stuff.
As long as they just stand there and let you do it.

Better just hope they dont know to grab onto your gun and wrap their hand around the cylinder, as you "try" to pull the trigger. ;)

with the amount of purchase you have on your gun, and the lack of grip available on a cylinder....one good jerk backwards is going to pop that gun right out of his hands

Once I have a hold of your gun/cylinder, why would I hesitate and stop?

Theres a good chance your not going to have it long, and your trigger finger (among other things) isnt going to be very happy. :)

So what makes you think I am going to stand there and let them do it to me???

Or that they can remove the slide off of some semi-autos by pushing the takedown lever down and stripping the slide backwards...

Or they can disable a 1911 by causing you to break your grip enough to release the grip safety...

Or they can push the thumb safety up to the lock position...

Or they can push the thumb safety down on semi-autos with slide mounted safeties...

Or they can push the magazine release button causing the magazine to eject enough to disable semi-autos with magazine disconnects...

Want to come up with any more silly techniques how to disable a handgun in close quarters combat?

I was simply pointing out that revolvers arent the end all to the problem.
