Does anybody else do this?

The other day my wife and I were cleaning our bedroom and bathroom when she started giggling at me. When I asked her what was so funny, she pointed down at my hand . . . I was picking up her hair dryer and had my index finger straight along the horizontal part of it. :)

I guess "keep your finger off the trigger" is so ingrained in my head that I subconsciously apply it to all "pistol-shaped" items.

So, does anyone else make sure that things don't get "blown away" accidentally?
 
I do it too, and it ain't a bad idea.
Especially if the 'gun' in hand is a nail gun, staple gun or power drill.

Yep.

I do it with drills and the like all the time. I don't even realize it half the time. Not a bad habit to have. Heck if we could get the rest of the world to do that with hair dryers and drills and what not maybe there would be fewer NDs and ADs when these people actually held their first gun.

Oh yeah. Most definately. Not only do I hold trigger finger outside of frame on my Makita cordless, you should see me do tactical battary changes and speed reloads when I'm hurryin' to beat the inspector....:D

I first noticed doing it with drills and nail guns. I've since noticed doing it with the Windex bottle. I'm not sure but I think that might be carrying it a bit too far.
 
I don't think I use my finger oddly, but the awareness factor that Cooper stresses has helped to make me more alert in traffic. I can often tell in advance what a certain driver will do, and that enables me to avoid quite a few accidents. I was once also a cop, and that helps me to read people, too.

My passion for guns is probably more evidenced in such things as noticing that the way a floor tile is cracked reminds me of the shape of a certain holster...

Just today I noticed this. My boss and I were cleaning out a new server and he asked for the air duster (compressed Tetrafluorethane and Dimethyl Ether, really) and as I passed it to him, I saw that my finger was "off the trigger" and that it was pointed in a safe direction.
Not a bad habit, though ... the stuff can give frostbite if misused.

Heh, just thought of something.
This could be like a 'secret handshake' at social gatherings.

Keep an eye on who holds their drink with the pinky sticking out, probably not a shooter; and those who grip their drinks like a shooter.

"Say Bob, noticed the way you're holding your beer, wanna go shootin' sometime?"

Yep, I know all the rules:

1. All hair dyers are always plugged in.
2. Never point a hair dryer at anything you aren't prepared to blow warm air on.
3. Keep your finger off the switch until you're ready to dry your hair.
4. Always be sure of exactly what you are drying.

. . . or something like that! :D
 
Rule 5: Never use the hair dryer while in the bath, shower or in the rain. :D
