Does anybody else like recoil?

Less and less each year. Say I'm getting old and you'd be right, but I also don't have nearly as much to prove anymore. Not to any one, or myself.

"BTW.......45 years later I still like my motorcycles loud, my cars fast and my women hot. I'm growing old maybe, but I ain't growin' breasts."

well put.

I sincerely hope your health holds up and you continue to just grow old. Altho the odds are against you.

i love "shove" recoil, but i don't like snappy recoil

m44: good recoil
sub2000 .40: fricking painful snappy recoil (why the hell does .40 hurt my shoulder so bad ?)

I appreciate your concern, but just cause I'm gettin' old, don't mean I'm gonna lay down, give up and die. Just cause I'm a grandpa, don't mean I gotta only shoot grandma guns.

Big recoil does not make me feel like a studly dude.

Tightening my patterns beyond my previous personal best, however, does make me feel like a studly dude.

I too like recoil

In my hand only. I really don't like it on the shoulder, never have. Not that I am a wimp when it comes to rifles, but I like shooting from a bench most of the time and a heavily loaded 7mm mag convinced me that was too much of a good thing. In a hand handgun I will take whatever you throw at me, though at TC with a 10 inch barrel in 45-70 is just unpleasant. It really whacks your knuckles.

Thats the point wes840, you got it.

We dont have a gong at 1,000 yds, but hitting all 5 eggs off hand at 100 yds, w/open sights. Now that gets it.

Well I traded off my 10ga slug gun about 15 years ago. last year traded off a 835 shotgun, still like the big 45 handguns but slowing down on the long guns.big booms are a BLAST know I like to watch others shoot the big ones.

Well, I'm not recoil shy, but I don't feel the need to impress so much any more. My wife and I shot big bore handgun silhouette back in the early 80s, so we're not new to shooting hundreds of rounds out of magnum handguns every month.

If you really enjoy recoil, why not save some money and just smash your hand with a hammer over and over. Same result, and you can do it at home for free.

well.. ok...gotta' say it

bruises on my shoulder the day after never did make my wind chimes tinkle loudly
but the flame effects from a 22 WMR or 357 mag revolver about pert-near dark time always did make me giggle like a little girl

(wouldn't want y'all to think I was a wussie)
:banghead:

good thing I did not see above post 1st #37, before posting
would'a been laughing too hard to type
(reminds me of my opinion of casino gambling)

Not here!

Not old, not a whimp, but not big on the recoil.

For a real suprise, I dont like smashing a finger, a kick in the groin, or being punched in the nose either! :neener:

I like recoil. I shoot mostly pistol and for the longest time all of my favorite loads were anything with Lil'Gun in them. Recently this changed though when I discovered 296 has more flash, bang, and less recoil. Now not only does the gun let me know when I fired it, it lets the guy two lanes over (at the indoor range) know as well! :D

So you enjoy aggravating your fellow shooters? Why?

Let me list the top 3 reasons why people do not hit what they are shooting at or otherwise shoot poorly.
#1. recoil
#2. recoil
#3. recoil
Recoil and the anticipation there of is the root cause for almost all technical errors made while shooting. So, for me, it just seems like, not the smart thing to seek out.

I pull my 629 out of my bag when I get tired of being pinged by brass from the adjacent Kel-Tec shooters. A cylinder full of H110 Max loads gets me a pretty good buffer zone.

Recoil does not bother me at all and I like man-handling big guns that shoot big rounds. It makes me feel like a man. Anybody else feel this way?

After firing each shot, do you say "Thank you sir, may I have another"? :D

Suffice it to say I'm glad I grew up and matured.

Get off your high horse Mr. Holier than Thou

Yep, I like big boomers too, but I don't like them to hurt. No legitimate reason they need to.

I can tell you're a fun person to be around

Shooting tight groups with heavy recoil is the pinnacle of awesomeness. This makes me feel like a studly dude.

Have you tried to shoot a 12g slug with one hand, off the shoulder?

No sir but I have fired two 3in slugs out of my SxS at the same time.

Yes sir, most people just can't handle it.

After firing each shot, do you say "Thank you sir, may I have another"?

Thats right, you have me figured out.

I think I may have a shooting disorder. I like recoil. I love shooting 500gr rounds out of my .45-70, 300gr loads out of my .375 H&H, +P .44 mag loads, etc.

Recoil does not bother me at all and I like man-handling big guns that shoot big rounds. It makes me feel like a man. Anybody else feel this way?

I love my .45-70, but I think you're trying too hard.

"Recoil does not bother me at all and I like man-handling big guns that shoot big rounds. It makes me feel like a man. Anybody else feel this way?"

some do
some don't
some guys find handling soft and smooth to be particularly pleasing
some guys prefer harder and stiffer actions
whatever tinkles your wind chimes, different strokes for different folks

I have always been real partial to soft and squeezable, myself
all a matter of individual preference, I reckon
to each his own

My all-time favorite hand load has always been 38 caliber, 24 mm case length, with 38 /10 grain of very slow burning powder, but that's just me
Not for everybody, you know, not something you could just expect to pick up off-the-shelf, but well worth the time spent developing a consistent and highly accurate load for

and very consistent, over a wide range of bullet grain weights, if loaded with patience and careful attention, a surprisingly fast round, yet soft shooting, minimal recoil, yet with sometimes spectacular results, even though a bit prone to fragmentation if loaded just a little bit too hot
(versatile, too, works pretty much the same out of short or long barrels)
JHP or JSP will do, but given the nature of the load, I find that FMJ yields better penetration. YMMV may vary, of course.

PS
no matter how much fun a Big Bang may be, there is still a lot to be said for soft and slow, you know ;)

After a torn rotator cuff, recoil loses it's appeal. It's not always the bigger bore that has more recoil. 12 gauge in a pussycat autoloader is nothing. In an 870 it is very easily manageable. Single-shot break open, ouch. Frankly, my lightweight .375 Winchester kicks sharper and harder than the gentle thump-push of a .458 Win. Mag. in a model 70. I love that rifle, but 10 shots will leave a bruise.
