Does anyone know what this is?

I just bought a bundle of reloading supplies from a friend. This was included but have no idea what it is. Other items in stuff I got was 7mm REM mag, .243win, .270win, and .220 swift. Ok, the friend I got it from got it from his uncle who passed away, that’s why he didn’t know. It has no markings, and doesn’t appear to have any moving parts. Someone else suggested it was a primer pocket swagger, but I don’t see how that would work. If this was setup in the press, how would you get the primer pocket to the swagger? (If this is what it is). I’m stumped. Hoping someone knows.

Looks like an expander die to me as well.
That makes sense to me, but based on what the uncle loaded, doesn’t make sense. Will see if I can measure the rod and see if I can figure it out or maybe that will help identify it. Thanks for the input

Ok. I just mounted in press. Have some new .243 brass and a bullet would not enter mouth. Ran brass into this “die” and it did indeed expand mouth enough to get bullet started, couldn’t push it in by hand, but see if I used bullet seating die, it will go in without issue. So if this is what it is(expander die), why would you need this if when you resize the case you would be expanding the mouth anyway? I can see that with the new brass that was with all the stuff I got, this would allow seating bullet and loading without using the sizing die, but I generally size all my brass anyway. Am I missing something here?

It has been tested to give better consentricity than an expander ball. It also works good on necks that have been stepped on.

Expander die body with expander. No markings on my die body either, just the diameter on the mandrel/expander.

New style and old style Sinclair in the pics.

Thank you, thank you. That’s exactly what it is. Went back after seeing your pictures and moved the lock ring and there was the other set screw underneath. Loosened and the rod came out. That now explains some other parts I found.

I appreciate everyone’s input. One of the reasons I love this forum. I found all the parts that Walkalong had in his photo, and now can’t wait to use it.

Yeah, I have lots of stuff I don’t use that came with other things I have picked up over the years, as well as stuff I still have left over from rifles past.

You might not need it, I don’t use them all of the time. That said, you can’t change the expander size with most die sets, like you can these.
