Does your FAL slap your face?

Neither of mine do, and I have one built with an Imbel kit, and one with a G1. The Imbel has synthetic stock, the G1 has wood.

Ok...

Going crazy now.

Dangit.

Looks like the DSA FAL is winning. I can get one of those and a Saiga .308 for the price of a standard M1A. Plus I don't want to go to the poor house buying mags.

I got a rifle for shooting ultra long range that will meet the accuracy of a M1A match rifle. I remember liking the " OMG...HE'S GOT A FRIGGEN MACICHINE GUN ON THE RANGE!! " look with the FAL. :D See...I'm stuttering already thinking about her.

No problems at all with my SA58 Medium Contour Tactical. 16" barrel with no brake shooting Aussie Surplus (good velocity). Gun as rigged (sight, loaded mag, etc.) is 10.2 pounds. Factory straight stock. I only weigh 150 lbs too.....

Well...

I took the plunge today and ordered a DSA STG58A Carbine! Those things are pretty pricey for a milsurp build weapon, but I know they are the best out there and they honor a life time warranty. By the time I get it to my dealer It will cost me a total of $999.00. $949 for the gun and the rest for shipping and transfer fees. I did a good bit of looking and so far that was the best deal I saw online. $899 was the price for the standard STG58A.

Anyway, to ease the pain Atlantic Firearms allows me to pay off in 60 days (online site), so that does ease the pain until I get my tax return. :D

I did a little math and it would have taken the following to build.

$400 plus for a DSA upper reciever. I could get an Imbel Gear Logo reciever for $250 FAC price ($209+ 10 ship+ 30 dealer/BG check)..but again it wouldn't have the resale value or warranty of a DSA.

$240 for a STG58 Kit from Dans Ammo. Try $350 for other places. ( I know there are some cheaper kits around, but the old STG/G1 $99 kits are far and few between) Plus DSA is supposed to have the best around. FAC wants $350 for a primo kit.

I don't have a definite price, but I figure $75.00 for a US compliant parts kit. (Including face slapping pimp stock)

$275 for Arizona Response Systems build and repark.

Total of : $990 for a the Carbine FAL using the DSA upper and Dans STG parts kit. I don't know about the ARS warranty, but I'm sure they would make good if it was a functioning problem. With the DSA I'll get a parts warranty as well.

Of course I could go the cheap route and build my own for $565.00 (Imbel upper, $240 STG kit, $75 US compliant parts kits.) But then I would have to shorten my own barrel, drill the gas port and silver solder the gas tube..something I just ain't up to these days. Then send off for a repark..extra fees.

So the DSA is looking a lot better to me these days . :D

Someone let me know if my math is off somewhere or the prices are wrong.

Good Shooting

A few dollars here ...a few dollars there...fuggitaboutit...enjoy your rifle. I don't think you can go wrong with a DSA and you save yourself a lot of time, effort, and worst of all ....waiting.

The cheek slap, as mentioned above, is due to the height of the comb on the straight StG stock.
Both taller sights, humpback stock, or both will alleviate the problem. Of course, with an L1A1, neither is a problem.
