Dogs on our hunting property

Comanche county, OK does not have a dog warden. Comanche county is 1.085 square miles in size, the size of Rhode Island, There are a total of eight patrol deputies. Two deputies are on duty after normal working hours. Our sheriff says that citizens should deal with their dog problems.

About ten years ago i got a frantic call from a rancher lady whose husband was on active duty in Iraq. Two large dogs were attacking the cattle. Dogs were chasing and biting cattle when i arrived, i killed both. Both pit bulls had recently worn collars.

Our feral dog situation would be much worse without the coyotes.

This game camera photo was taken at our place north of Elmore City. One of the neighbor's sheep dogs apparently had a taste for the pigs that frequent the feeder.

I live in a much smaller and more populated county. Even so, if you see two stray dogs menacing people in your neighborhood, Animal Control will call you back the next day or within several hours if you’re lucky. You got a problem with dogs you have to deal with it yourself.

I’d guess that most members of the high road understand that when seconds count the police are minutes away. Yet many of those same people think Animal Control is going to be more responsive?

Another thing: I’d guess that most members here would be absolutely mortified if they unknowingly dropped their carry handgun on a neighbor’s porch and left it there. Letting your dog run loose is worse. Unlike firearms, dogs have a mind of their own. My whole family knows, as does everyone here, that a gun can’t hurt you if nobody touches it. You can’t possbily know that about a dog you don’t know.

For a couple years we had a neighbor who had two nasty pit bull dogs. Dogs dug under the privacy fence and crawled into our back yard. We had a poodle that was often the back yard. Made it clear the dogs must never come in our yard again. One of the dogs got out and attacked a neighbors dog: Someone killed that dog

One night the guy shot at his wife and the wife returned fire. There were sheriff's deputies, Lawton cops, and Comanche nation police on the scene. The next day there were people in the back yard dressed in Tyvek with DEA logo. Turns out my neighbor had four felony convictions for dope peddling. After the fifth conviction he got life in prison.

The mans wife was a pharmacy tech who could not work because of hubbys dope convictions. They had two gorgeous girls.
