Deer season is two months away :D and i have a new kimber 84l classic select in 30-06 topped with a Leupold vx-3 2.5-8x36 and have it sighted in pretty close with 165 grain nosler bt bullets. Im going to do the final "fine tuning" tomorrow afternoon and need more ammo so my question is should i stick with the federal premium 165 grain nosler BT ammo or should i pick up something loaded with a 165 grain TTSX bullet? I have no first hand experience with the TTSX but have heard good reviews. The target is MN whitetail thst can get pretty big (i shot a 215 lb dressed buck last year) and i will be shooting at 250 or less yard's but usually 50-100 yard shots are most common. So nosler bt or Barnes ttsx for deer?

Many thanks,

Cory

I dont know much about the Nosler but everyone I know that has hunted with the TSX or TTSX has loved them.

By they way..... It is considered rude to not post a picture of a new rifle when you make a thread about it. :p Especially if its a particularly nice one like a Kimber.

Stick with the Federal as long as your happy with the grouping and your rifle likes it.
Its plenty good for deer.

I have pics and ill try to post here in a few minutes. I use my cell phone to surf the web so have to transfer pics to the laptop to post. Give me a few min.... lol

hopefully it uploads. I'm not the best with computers...
I'm thinking i should try the ttsx because I'm a little worried about taking a short range shot with the nosler bt and it failing to penetrate. we've all heard the horror stories about ballistic tips at short range! i'd think the ttsx would be better at short range since its an all copper (tougher construction) bullet? does that make sense or am i nuts?

Nice rifle. By bullet design you may be right on the short range issue. I have not shot the TSX so I can't vouch for it. If you feel better about the TSX then try it. For deer in .30-06 I use 150 gr Remington PSP CoreLoks.

I realize a "premium" bullet isn't necessary for plain old whitetail deer and corelokts and many other basic designs have probably killed more deer than any other bullet, but the way i look.at it is i have a "premium" deer rifle/scope so why not use a "premium" load? And if the TTSX group's better (which im guessing it will) im going to give it a shot. A nasty ballistic tip bullet made of 100% copper that will expand violently yet retain 95%+ original weight after smashing through any part of the deer sounds good. Anyone used them before? Or hornady SST or GMX? Ive used both hornady bullets but not in 30-06/.308. Any opinions are welcome and wanted.
