My present 1911 is a 1991A1 Colt Commander that as far as I know is stock out of the box. I got it used, so all I can say for sure is that I didn't do anything to it, except buy an extra magazine.

The last one I had though I shot thousands of rounds through (Colt GM). I know that one was stock because I bought it new in the box. It worked. Why change anything?

I don't think I have ever done anything to any gun, unless you count adding scopes and slings and such.

I don't count changing grips by the way. I don't even own any handgun that still wears its OEM grips, except one older S&W Model 15.

I used to tinker compulsively with any commercial Colt I could get my grubby fingers on. After a few frustrations and a real White Elephant (Colt with misaligned frame), I started trading them in on Dan Wesson and Fusion pistols with the features I wanted already OEM.

For example, I can't imagine anyone heavily modifying a Razorback or Valor. DW already did it for you. Fusion is even better in that they are more of a true semi-custom outfit. You'd almost have to have some sort of disorder to monkey with one of their pistols after ordering one!

'Loaded Champion' Springer...added a Pearce Grips finger groove.

"GI-45" exactly as it left Springfield Armory.

Stock, except for the grips.
Probably haven't run a thousand rounds a year through it for a few years now, but I did for many years.
