I'm looking to build/buy as close to a close on the Army's SDM-R as I can get.

The only manufacturer I've found that makes something like that (without buying the upper assembly in separate pieces, which is more work that I'm equipped to do) is DPMS.

Anyone know anything about their SDM-R clone and/or the upper thereof?

And yes, I've searched here and at arf.com.

Oh, and has anyone dealt with Rguns? I've seen their ad in SGN, and they've got the best price I've found on the DPMS SDM-R by a good bit.

CMMG has a couple of 18" setups and some 20" as well and offer a metric ton of stuff to put on them...prices aren't the cheapest but the stuff is really well liked out there.

It's DPMS. It's good quality.

Haven't used that particular model though.

Are you sure you aren't talking about the .223 SASS? I've ordered from Rguns (good business, btw) and I've only seen the SASS on their site, although DPMS does make an SDM-R upper.

The White Oak is definitely worth looking at. A good bit more $$, but much better quality.

My only concern is the Wylde chamber. I need 5.56

I would go with CMMG myself.

Matter of fact, I probably will, when I get around to it.

So, what I'm looking at so far is this:

DPMS SDM-R upper from local gun shop: $825 w/tax. This includes free float rails, plus a bipod and rail covers. I'd want to add a Smith Vortex, which would bring it closer to $900

CMMG 20" medium contour upper w/Daniel Defense free float rails & Vortex: $926 + shipping

I'll have to check on MSTN tomorrow.

That's a no brainer. CMMG. Much better quality than DPMS...
