Drill Rifles for Civil Air Patrol Cadet Honor Guard

I was a cadet 1986-1990. Got my Mitchell and went SM.

One of my fellow cadets is 1142 and now the Kansas Wing Commander. You Spaatz mafia types get around!

The SOG rifles are the way to go, but are likely in pretty bad shape appearance wise. Expect to put new(er) wood and clean up the finish on them.

Someone above suggested contacting you Congressman. If a well detailed request is sent the worst that can be said is no. Sometimes these can can pull a few strings. Also might keep him or her busy enough to not pass some new tax or give something to think about while on vacation.

Right now it looks like the best they'll be able to do for cost reasons is Hungarian Steyr M95 rifles in nice condition. They'd have to buy them, but at a price they can conceivably raise donations towards. They ARE nice rifles and look good, but they're not American arms, which is a bit of a downer since the CAP is honoring American servicemen and women.

Any helpful pointers or ideas are very welcome! Thanks in advance for anything you can shed light on!

Know anybody in the local press?

I would think a story about how the CAP drill team is going to have to BUY =foreign military= rifles because the US Military can't seem to find any anywhere might be enough to embarrass some brass hat somewhere into action. Some pictures of them marching carrying AK-47s would be priceless.

It's sad when you have to do things like that, but sometimes that kind of "motivation" is necessary to get somebody off their butt to do the right thing.
