Hello, I just bought a new marlin 795 for under $100 and the sights sit crooked on the barrel, I'm guessing overtorqued barrel.

I recently drilled and tapped a lever gun for the williams 94/36 peep sight and was thinking I could use the same sight for my new marlin. Is there any problem with drilling/tapping the side of the receiver for this sight? It does appear I may have to raise the front sight some, and thought shimming it might work. Any ideas and advice would be appreciated!

Those barrels aren't screwed in, they are a friction fit with a cross pin at the bottom. The pin may be missing or broke and the barrel spun a bit.

The barrel is a press fit with small splines on the shank. Take the barrel pin out of the receiver, remove the barrel, and realign.

Too late haha, I wanted a peep sight anyways. Works good and is sturdy.
