I was cleaning up my camp carbine 45 and couldn't help but notice she runs dirty. So I looked on the garage shelf and spotted a can of bike chain dry lube designed not to bond with dust, dirt and grime as readily as petroleum based lubes.

So I was thinking, would it hurt anything to try it out in the camp 45?

That's kind of a blowback for ya; not sure any solution will make things cleaner. I run my STGW57 (roller delayed) with Teflon-bearing grease, which at least keeps the filthiness from running down and out every opening in the weapon :D. I almost think you'd want something sticky, so you aren't throwing off dust clouds like Pig Pen past a certain point.

I tend to go the other way and use thin light oils to keep stuff running. I'll reapply during breaks in shooting if needed. I prefer to keep the filth suspended in oil instead of letting it set into a paste.

My usual oil is either Aeroshell Fluid 18 or Royco CLP.

A goodly number of folks swear by EEZOX dry lube for their rimfire blowbacks. It goes on wet and cleans but you're supposed to wipe off most of the excess and let the remainder dry. It's supposed to provide a lubricating film for quite a while.

And there ain't much that is more dirty than the inside of a blowback rimfire gun. So if it's working for those I don't see why it won't work for your CC.

It couldn't hurt to try.

I tend towards briansmithwins' approach, though: Keep blowback guns well lubed to keep the crud in suspension. It wipes off pretty easily after I'm done.

Please post the results of your testing.

A clean blowback is a slow blowback. A slow blowback is a heavy blowback.

With a BCG weighing nearly 3.5 lb my MechTechs shoot clean. My 9mm AR is absolutely filthy. It's physics. I've gone with an extra long 9mm buffer which is as heavy as I can go without going to tungsten.
