I have a very old Iver Johnson Safety Automatic revolver chambered in 32 S&W. The revolver was made in 1897. The revolver is in excellent condition with good timing and lock up and the hinge is tight. I wish to shoot this revolver on a very limited basis (no more than 10 rounds a year). Most people that I have asked agree that it should not be shot with modern ammo. I have reloading dies for 32 S&W. Is it possible to duplicate black powder rounds with smokeless powder? Any suggested loads? Should I load with black powder or maybe modern black powder substitute? Safety of the revolver is of primary importance. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

Just load with Swiss Black powder.

It is generally a bad idea to shoot smokeless with BP proofed guns.

Look into IMR Trail Boss powder, it was specifically designed for Cowboy Action Shooters. The website has a reloading manual for Trail Boss
