Somebody please school a newbie on Duracoat. I have read the blurb on their website, but stil have questions. What, exactly, is it? How does it affect value? How durable is it? Thanks!!

i used duracoat once, its pretty easy to apply. i used it over park. the gun came out looking like it was supposed to but the duracoat still scratches. the way its hyped on the website i expected something more like auto paint meets pickup bed liner, instead its more of a latex on steriods. don't make my mistake and spray it over a decent gun, if you have something that is beat and needs a new finish have at it, if your gun still has a reasonable finish skip duracoat. to remove just use the "thinner" that comes with the product. if its already dry a wire wheel makes short work of it....or N-terpinal http://www.solventreplacement.com/

It's paint, and looks like it. I haven't been impressed with handguns done with duracoat. it looks ok on AK's, but handguns look better blued, parkerized, or with NP3.

my opinion only.

If it comes off looking like paint then something was done wrong. A good duracoat finish will look better than most factory finishes.

If it's done right, it lasts very well. We've done many rifles, shotguns and handguns and have had very good luck with it. Will it scratch? Sure. So will the original bluing. ALL finishes can be damaged but we have put some of these guns through the mill and the DC has been surprisingly durable.
