Dutch justice minister to ban semi-automatic rifles

I understand that the uniformed police officer that was killed was unarmed. Wouldn't it be better to at least arm the police so that at the very least they can shoot back?

Unfortunately, there is no pro-gun political party in the Netherlands and no pro-gun media. The right to carry and use a gun in self defence is not on anybody's political agenda.

No pro-gun party? Start one! No guns on anyone's agenda? Make it so!

I have an Israeli friend who is very pro-RKBA (and I don't know how much you know about Israeli society, but he is a smaller minority than, probably, even the pro-gun people in Holland) and of course the situation in Europe is very near and dear to him, as you are pretty much next door neighbors. The statement above and the statement below are his words that I'm paraphrasing:

Have a protest. It doesn't matter if there are 3 of you protesting for gun rights, 5 cameramen, and 300 people protesting against you. It will make it to newspapers even if it's only a small paragraph on the last page that paints you in the most negative light. Make sure people know about it, especially the media. Organize through Facebook and Twitter. Be civil and use a simple, powerful slogan ("Self defense is a human right", something along those lines is good I think, but hey, it's your show...) Set up a website, with, in your language, the arguments for allowing the use of firearms (if you need data, look up Gun Facts), so that when people hear about your protest and Google what it's about, they find the information you want them to find.

It's a slow process, and a long uphill battle. But it can be done, I think. And even if it can't, it's a battle worth fighting
